Cactus health
    #4381573 - 07/07/05 10:52 PM (11 years, 4 months ago)

My Peruvian has been looking quite bright green around the top, and I just noticed now that the whole plant is looking a few shade's lighter.

I have been googling and searching the archives here to find some info on the life cycle of the cactus but not found anything showing what possible deficincies and symptoms could be.

If anybody can offer their help or a link I would appreciate it.

Thanks!

My pedro has gotten a lot lighter also. It seems to be in good health though.

I will try to find the digital camera and post some comparison pic's.

They are streching. Well that is the only thing that I can think of for this. Also notice in those pictures that the lighter part is skinnier. Ill throw up a pick of my extremly streached cacti that will show an extreme example of it..

It was under a 250w HPS about 2 months ago, but now it sit's in a south-south east facing window, and it get's watered every 1/4 year. The first summer watering it get's a shot of some fert's.

Ok first of all, don't even bother putting a cactus that size under a 250W HPS.

They need strong light, if it doesn't get at least 6-8 hours sun a day it will not grow properly. You should only be watering when the temprature and light levels are adequate and when they are you should be watering weekly! During the winter you want your cactus to go dormant, give it no water and sunlight is not important for Trichocereus species during dormancy.
