would you let these cakes go for a 4th flush, or toss em?
    #4378673 - 07/07/05 04:40 AM (11 years, 5 months ago)

Those 2 cakes are on thier 3rd flush. This one below is only on it's second flush, it took a really long tome for it to start pinning. It started after I already picked the first flush from the others.

Do you think I should go for a 4th flush after this one or toss em and start my next batch? I already have 8 jars pressure cooked and waiting in my closet. If I give these another flush I'll have to wait to  noc' up my other jars. :mushroom2:

I would spawn them to poo, I always spawn to poo after 3rd flush, and if it already is a poo casing, it just gets spawned up 50% casing 50% poo.. I still haven't tossed my first cakes, they where just cased, and spawned to poo, by now they are the size of loaves of bread, and one of them is on it's 10th flush.. (2nd on it's current incarnation)

"and one of them is on it's 10th flush" Jesus Christ man, that's insane! So do they give a good first flush when a 4th flush cake is spawned to poo?

I see abhorts in the third pic. Try what Kalix said and use them as spawn maybe, or try casing them. Also, you don't need to wait to knock up new jars. The sooner you get them knocked up, the less time you'll have to wait before you can replace the spent cakes

the reason I can't noc' up the next jars is because I use my rubbermade container for my fruiting chamber and my incubator. My basement gets pretty cold with the air conditioner on so I need to put em in my incubator to get em to start colonizing. WI Shroomer Skater, we've got alot in common 1. we live in Wisconsin 2. We love shrooms 3. We skateboard (at least I used to, I haven't skated in like 6 months)

Hmm... maybe try to find another warmer place to store them? That, or scrape up a little money to buy another tub for an incubator? Otherwise, you'll just have to wait. You could make casings out of them and put the casings inside a large plastic bag for fruiting. That, or bury them and try for an outdoor grow.

That's cool that we have so much in common. We should meet up some time... maybe at the Gathering?

Yes.. They stop flushing good because they're running out of nutrients, so if you spawn it to a nutrient rich sub, like horse shit, then it can do four more flushes.. I do 50% poo, and 50% spawn, because the myc is weak from flushing so much, and isn't as quick to colonize as say, fresh cakes or WBS that hasn't been fruited yet.

And the casing that is on it's tenth flush, had 4 flushes as BRF, was spawned up to poo, had 4 more flushes, and was spawned up to more poo..

Toss em, permanently, and move to grains. Take it from someone who learned from experience, cakes are a pain in the ass. Way too much work for little return. I averaged about 52 grams wet per flush and it still was way too much work. Move to grains now and get ready for Agar's new substrate, lol.

Here they are today.

I picked the 3 biggest shrooms off this cake, which were also upside down, because they didn't seem to be growing at all. I'll see if the little ones will.
