Casing pics and a simple idea
    #4377935 - 07/07/05 12:34 AM (12 years, 9 months ago)

Hola everyone. This is ADoobie from north of the border. Check out some so/so casing pics and ponder some thoughts.

Notice the healthy looking bunch (mind the single abort) in the middle here. What you can not see is that I loved these casings far more than I should have. I inspected them from every angle, every hour of every day. It got to the point that I must have been color blind. Before I knew it, I imagined the painful discolorization of contamns. In a desperate attempt to save the casing (which was doomed to fail), I tried to dig out the "color" with a clean spoon. I created a hole about an in deap (down to the WBS substrate) and let things grow...

Okay thats the real version in fairy tale talk. In essence:

Casing was pulled from incubation way too early, and given a premature cold shock. Casing suffered from extreme cobweb mold. Casing fully recovered from cobweb mold post-pinning with no special attention. Casing kept at extreme humidity levels ranging from 75% - 100%. By the time myc reached top of casing layer, pins had formed in the cavity left by the spoon extraction. By the time pins formed on other layers of casing, cavity had grown far more pins than anywhere else. They grew at even pace with rest of casing, and the pictures are up to date (7-06-05) pre-harvest.

Thought to ponder:

Since the timing of the initiation of casing pinning is often dificult for newbs, would divets be beneficial to first time pinsets?

Thought to ponder:

Would divets provide for extended pinset of casings for people that have problems with casings?

Thought to ponder:

Would it be possible to establish greater, earlier pinsets in poo-based substrates with "divets"

This of cource must take into consideration the concerning increased odds of contamination that would arise due to the "digging" with un-sterile objects such as a spoon.

I got my spoon fresh from the dishwasher, and carried it halfway accross the house.

By the way, the casing was not contaminated....I just imagined it.

I know what strikes me as odd about this. It is totally unnatural. The whole idea is just totally backwards.

So are historians going to look back at 'The Great Cake Eaters'? Damn. That was a backwards step in the evolutionary process. We left Shroomheads in the dust. Welcome to the new age of Vermheads.

I ONLY STUDY legal, edible mushrooms and mycology. Any mention of any other kind of mushroom is purely fictional, and pictures are ripped from the internet. I do not grow mushrooms!
