CHILLER

Just FYI.... if you ever see a single electric wine bottle chiller at a thrift store, snap that puppy up.

If you have a big jar or substrate incubator, and it overheats DURING HOT WEATHER.

One of these puppies - filled with water, will COOL it down.

The better ones - even have a thermostat dial setting on them & you simply - adjust accordingly.

Agar, if there was ever a MacGyver Mycology Award, I believe you would own it on a consistent basis. You always have your eye out for nontraditional equipment and ideas. I love it...five for you.

Make sure your chiller works with water first. My wine chiller does not use water, and in the instruction manual warns againstputting water/ice in it at all. Make sure it can be used as agar said before adding water, dont want to short your shit out.

Another "MacGyver" idea would be to build a smaller version of a Temporary Portable Air Conditioner

This could be a cheap effective way to keep the air down.

If it doesn't work with water (alone), but a bottle of water - in it. It will chill the bottle & surroundings.

hrmm.. i never knew there was a need for such a device, but i can tell you that those things operate on peltier technology. for the more DIY individuals, you can pick up peltiers from various electronic part stores online or now the extreme PC cooling after market sites.
when you apply an electric current you get one really hot side and one really cold side. you put a heatsink+fan on the hot side and attach the cold side to whatever you want to keep cold. add in a thermostat and you are set!

hrm.. i think i have the perfect setup for this actually

hrm now you got me thinking... you could use evaporative cooling in a cooling bong (think the coolness of a nuclear power plant mixed with a bong): http://www.themodfathers.com/Articles/waterfaq/2.jpg
and off of that you could use the humid exhaust air to keep a fruiting chamber humid

You could build a giant bong with a small fruiting chamber attached, maybe just hold one cake or something lol..that would be some cool looking shit..

Growing with bags, start to finish (including my new grain and substrate prep)
Anyone looking to start bulk tubs/mono tubs/shotgun hybrids? Good tubs to use..
How I do grain (old still good tips)
Turn your closet into a fruiting chamber
Casing layer colonization and overlay
