Should i give up on my patch?
    #4376465 - 07/06/05 06:10 PM (11 years, 5 months ago)

I have an outdoor bed that is about 2 weeks old (give or take some days). I basically just took some fully colonized horse poo from indoors, and put it into a bucket outdoors. The substrate is about 3 inches deep. It was cased with about 1/2 inch of potting soil, and a very thin straw layer to hold in moisture. I kept it watered very regularly (5-6) times a week unless it rained. There is still no signs of pins. Should i give up hope on it? 2 weeks and no pins sounds pretty doubtful, especially since it was started with already colonized poo.

I thought fully colonized poo pinned in like 5 days after casing?

ALso, when my poo was about 75-90% colonized it got some green mold. I thought it wouldnt be a problem since it was outdoor, and the myc. was already established and strong.

Is it covered?

And Dig in one spot and see if you see whiteness.

I would have let it all colonize first...THEN cased.

And i'd have made it deeper....but it doesn't really matter...it should still fruit.

And is it in a shady area?

It is not covered, except by a protective wire fence.

it did colonize before i cased it. I colonized it indoors, then broke it up and cased outdoors.

The area is very shady.

It smells like a colonized WBS jar too. I assumed thats a good sign.

There was whiteness when i first cased it, so if its gone now does that mean it's dead? There is no myc. on top of the casing layer, and i have yet to really see any pop through.

Should the inside poo part be really white like a colonized jar? Or more dirty brown white because it's in the ground now?

White. Should be white.

Sounds fine.

More white needs to cover the top b4 pins form.

Not much, but jus a little to where u can see it Right below the surface of the casing layer.

if i see nothing in about 3-5 days im going to transfer it too the ground, and out of the bucket. Ill then see if the myc. is still alive. I figure the ground is more natural then the bucket.

question: does the bucket have drainage?
Also, it's gonna take a few days to permiate that casing layer, then it has to flatten out before primordia will begin to form, still, all in a couple days.

Just a quick note on something I learned from my first recent outdoor cube grow: Drench the hell out of them. Taking one or two trips a day and literally pouring a couple cups of water directly on your grow works wonders. Gotta make up for lack of outdoor humidity, the extra water really gets things going nicely.
