Need ID help... (Long, black, thin, stinky)
    #4376227 - 07/06/05 05:19 PM (11 years, 4 months ago)

Hey Im new to mushrooms and a friend of mine just threw some my way but I want to be sure of what they are before I ingest them. I got some pictures and other details. Considering where I live I guess I can say they're from the northeast, no clue if theyre wild or not.

pic2

Habitat: No idea.
Gills: Black, nothing special.
Stem: As you can see theyre pretty long and thin. The mushrooms themselves are moist.
Cap: Basic shape of a mushroom. No real tip of the cap, just a pretty even semicircle. The edges get somewhat lighter in color.
Spore print color: This is hard because Im kinda color blind but it looks like dark bluish/purple.
Color it bruises: Not sure exactly.
Scent: Smells horrible. I really cant describe it off hand.

Id appreciate any tips. Any questions or help describing it would be appreciated as I really dont have any experience with this until now.

And sorry I couldnt find a metric ruler.

hi mopo.

unfortunately, your mushrooms are unidentifiable..

they slightly resemble Panaeolus mushrooms,
but with no habitat or spore print color no-one could say for sure.

**btw, i dont believe any mushrooms have a bluish/purple spore print color..?

Yes those look too old and rotten to ID. The smell that you mention especially suggests so.
Try to get some fresh specimens, along with habitat photos if possible.
Definitely don't eat them. Not only do we not know what species you have (eating unidentified mushrooms is not a good idea) but the fact that they are rotting is yet another thing that could harm you.

If you do find something that you get an ID on and plan on eating, drying them properly is important so that they don't rot.
