    #4375586 - 07/06/05 02:01 PM (11 years, 10 months ago)

Ok...I live by some trees and a lake, and i have never done shrooms and i dont live by any farms which means no cow shit so i have to look hareder already... but will the lake come itno play with finding mushrooms or should i just stick to woods and old dead trees that are damp? any help or tips or anything would be fine...

and when i do find some, i will be back to ask how to clean, dry, hang, eat and everything else =/

Humidity, temperature, medium and many other factors contribute to where mushrooms will grow. This doesn't guarantee that you will find any even if all parameters are perfect or that the ones you find will be active. If there is no mycelium growing in an area, it won't matter. You sound like you live in a great area to start an outdoor bed of your own though. That is what I would do if I were you. Good luck hunting anyway. Check the posting guidelines for this forum for general info about the right time to search for them.

I have found loads of mushrooms growing in the woods around a lake on the south east side of Dayton.

Have fun.

Just beware that Ohio hunting can get somewhat frustrating at times ><..

Well actually I guess that would probably apply to everywhere heh. It just makes finally finding the real thing that much cooler though!

I myself have decent luck finding some sometimes in hay. Now, the only place I can find that easily would be in a construction area at an intersection near my house. Why they have so much hay there is beyond me, but be sure to go out and pick the mushrooms in the morning if at all possible. I have gone the night after a rain, seen some mushrooms starting to pop, but still too small to pick. If I have some spare water I might sprinkle them. Then the next night Ill go and poof, completely dried out. In the morning, they are nice and full grown though.
