Help with my pedro*hopefully a flower*
    #4369495 - 07/04/05 01:08 PM (18 years, 7 months ago)

I am hoping this is the starting of a flower and not something bad, well guys take a look and tell me whats you think, there are two poking out so far..

here is another pic for another angle

and one other question, the big cactus in this next picture has a bad waterspot on it, but seems to be throwing off pups well.  The question is why would it not be growing roots, the big one was planted about 6 months ago, put off a pup after about two, but it tipped over one day and broke off the pup, at this time i noticed it had now roots and was like wierd....the pup on there now is the second one it has put off and it is getting big, i just dug up a little dirt around the base to see if there are roots now and there still isnt....WTF?

and here is a few pics of my cactus just for fun

thanks for the help guys

peace :rasta:

Yeah, it looks like a new pup forming rather than a flower bud. Flower buds usually have little black or grey hairs on them. As it gets bigger it'll be easier to tell. It doesn't look like anything bad though. Usually flowers form very close to the top of the cactus.

any response to why my big cactus will not grow roots, it makes it unstable, but it is still pupping, its got that big one, had one previously that broke off, and now another poking through....im dumbfounded

How long has it been in the soil? Large cactus cuttings are renound for taking AGES to grow roots. I like to try to keep cuttings under 1 foot long for good root growth. All you can really do right now is get some rocks and prop it up real steady around the base, keep it as still as possible and don't feel tempted to keep checking it for roots. They will grow, eventually.

it has been in the soil it is in since it fell over the first time, about 4 months, but it is shooting off pups as well, i guess it just absorbs nutrients throught the vascular tissues exposed ont he bottome of the cutting since it has no roots?

peace
