Is there a casing you can use with out having to worry about PH? just easy to find and mix and sterilize and just basally easy to work with? I have a VERY good microwave to sterilize and that's what I have to work with. I was just going to do the spawn run with Hpoo and just fruit of that Like RK said, but who knows....

haven't tried it myself, but others here have posted about using jiffy mix as a casing layer. it is already ph balanced and should be able to be used straight from the bag, well that is after you get the water content needed. if you have any worries then go ahead and nuke it.
good luck

im probably the last person who should be answering a question, but I believe you can use vermiculite as a casing and that should be quite simple with few problems, I would just sterilize it first.

I know about jiffy mix BUT for some reson it now has perlite in place of verm. For that reson I am not sure if it would work.

well you could just mix some verm into it then. again i don't know how good of luck people are having with it.
just quit being a lazy mofo and get to the 50/50+ casing mix or get some coco coir which doesn't have to be ph adjusted.
good luck

What I am about to describe has worked for me every time I have done it, that does not mean it will work for you for sure, but if you feel experimental, I just do 50/50 peat verm, I don't sterilize it, I just moisten it and throw it on there.. I haven't got a contam on a casing yet, I just get 4 flushes out of them, and then spawn them to more h-poo..

Again, I re-iterate, just because this works for me, does not mean it will work for everyone, or anyone else for that matter.. Just some food for thought.

Could one sterilize just to be safe? Can you do this in the microwave? If so how long would you need to heat it up. so 50/50 is 50% is peat moss, and 50%Verm?

Yep 50% peat 50% verm, you could definetely nuke it! 5 minutes would be more than enough, I'm sure.. I've also done the no sterilization tek with straight verm, and it worked fine too.. I figured, if you just roll a cake in straight verm, then putting straight verm on a casing wouldn't hurt..

BTW My pinsets are never perfect like say Agars, so I'm not saying this tek is perfect, it just works..

yes that is right 50% of each.
i went and reread some of the teks on coco coir and they say to ph balance it as well, but i know i also read it here somewhere that is wasn't necessary to adjust the coir.
good luck with your choice of casing.

so spawning o hpoo, then casing it with 50.50, in a single tub tek. You think this would work?

Since ive only cased once you might want to disregard, but I used Jiffymix wich is 50% verm 50% peat with ph already stabalized (like$3 at lowes/home d) and I had my casings ready to fruit 4 days later. I steralized mine in jars in a PC but now Ive realized that this is prolly over kill but who cares, better safe than sorry.
