Is it really possible?
    #4373561 - 07/05/05 10:19 PM (11 years, 5 months ago)

Ive been thinking about it for a while and my question is this:

Is it really possible to lead a lifestyle of drug use and remain physically and mentally well? I am sure the use of some particular drugs would make that just about impossible, but what about strict selection and moderation? I ask this because i read some of these posts and alot of the people here seem to be having problems, but my introduction to certain drugs including mushrooms and morning glory have opened my eyes to a whole new spiritual aspect of life, which i consider a very important part of mental well being. I can't stand alcohol, in my mind it just fuels our society's monstrous flame of ignorance. I enjoy weed though, and this kindof bothers me, because all of my friends from school that smoke/smoked it on a regular bases at one point are noticeably dumber than they were before. Is it really dangerous? I think the only safe way is to excersize extreem moderation. What about acid? Ive never done it, but read alot about it. It seemed so perfect and holy until I read a small biography on Syd Barret of Pink Floyd accounting all of his psycological problems to his use of LSD.
What do u think?

Yes, you can, but as you said, practice moderation and use some common sense. Staying away from drugs like Meth or Coke also isn't a bad idea. And I think you'll like LSD - it can be quite fun. Just don't overdo it.....

yes, you can use heavy drugs for years and be VERY healthy, like Keith Richards (just kidding  )

but yeah, just dont use hard drugs, like coke, dxm, h, etc

even weed could be a problem. i dont see shrooms or LSD affecting your physical health

You can use any drug and be healthy in body and mind. Even if you do heroin in moderation to where you don't get addicted you could stay healthy.

yeah, but even moderately light heroin use would not keep you at say 100% in wellness, even if you use a bit it would bring it down just a little, maybe not even noticeable

hehe, I think it's funny how everyone has their different idea of what's safe and acceptable.

It's all subjective to the person I think. No two people are the same and no two people's brain/body chemistry is the same.

If you use a substance, just know what your putting into your body and from there you can decide what's right and wrong for you.

My personal outlook for myself is that any type of stimulant is something I have to be careful with. I've chose not to do them for the simple fact that I think they damage me. I drink quite a bit even though I know it's damaging to my liver, but I enjoy it as a social thing. And I love mushrooms and lsd once in a blue moon, but I think if I did them to much, it would mess me up.

You're not crazier, you're just awakening to the bigger picture. I find that psychedelics are the healthiest thing I've ever done, mentally, emotionally, spiritually and physically.

I think this definitely depends on which drug you are considering. I am a casual mushroom user, but this does not have any negative impact on me mentally or physically. I am very dedicated to bodybuilding and nutrition and it does not interfere with my life in the least. As far as mentally, I learn something about myself every time I take mushrooms. They are a beautiful substance when used properly.

Alcohol? I'm up in the air on this one. I find that personally alcohol benefits me a great deal mentally. I suffered from social anxiety and alcohol is by far the best treatment for it. Physically alcohol is not so healthy. In moderation I think it is fine.

I used to love marijuana but I really try not to use it anymore because of what it does to my lungs.

The drug used is irrelevant to your health. Your control over the situation is all that matters.

I am in incredible shape now. Every passing day I become more athletic. Just don't be stupid and you can do whatever you want.

I agree! it can be a great treatment for that.  [I risk getting flamed for this next comment but it has to be said]  I hate seeing highschool party's where alcohol and drug abuse lead to sluttiness.  It is just so demoralizing.  I also hate seeing ignorant adults use it, abuse it socially, even on a regular basis, then go out and critisize spiritual drug use/entheogens because they are too ignorant to know that there is a spiritual side to life.  My friends dad (a person like i mentioned above) has condemed me as a "bad influence" just because he circumstantiually suspects drug use.  This guy actually called the cops and tiped them off because he noticed lack of activity at a house on his street and thought it might be a grow op.  They checked the hydro readings and turns out they were using barely enough to run a refrigerator.  Sry if thats off topic but i wanted to say it lol :ooo:
Its just i hate seeing these people not look at alcohol as a drug.  The majority of our population has been raised to ignorantly think that it is not, taught by society that it is "cool" - beer commercials - clubbing - MTV.  Society has been wrong before like when they said the world was flat, but people just keep on blissfully following it no matter where it takes them

in my opinion it depends if you can control it. no common recreational drugs will really affect your physical or mental health if they're kept in extreme moderation, but some are hard to keep in moderation. i think psychedelics are the safest route. i think they are much more of a benefit to mental health than anything else, but if you go overboard, it's possible to end up like syd barret.

it's much harder to do some drugs throughout life and not let them get control over you, like coke and heroin. it's just all about willpower.

as of right now, i say to myself that once college is done, i'm not messing around with a lot of the drugs that i do occasionally now. it's going to be strictly psychedelics and pot. opinions change though, we'll see what happens.
