I'm interested to know where you are getting this from, as I've actually become interested in growing blazeii on field-composted manure that is available somewhat locally. I got a nutritional analysis on the compost and it looked almost ideal, no ammonia (actually >0.1 ppm , totally acceptable range), it would need nitrogen supplementation. Alice Chen has written a lot on Blazeii. You can check Mushworld.com and I think Unicorn Bags website has a grow guide for it along with a lot of other medicinals and gourmets. Now to answer your question - depending upon the nutritional breakdown of your poo - I think so. Sorry I can't be more specific, but I'm not positive. In most circumstances Blazeii is a secondary decomposer, so it must grow on a substrate that has already been broken down to a degree. It is an Agaricus, so it's well known that they grow extremely well on enriched composted straw/manure. Now whether or not the field composting of the manure is going to be adequate, I'll have to read your sources and check it out.

we are currently running our first batch of blazei on "digested" manure pasteurized indoors... i'll post pics and any info whenever they fruit but they are screamin threw the substrate! very exciting..

what do you mean by digested poo and how did you pasteurize it?

digested poo is some manure we found that had its parts seperated, gas, liquids, and solids... we get the solids and they heat up on their own VERY fast.. they are steaming when we get them.. seems to do the trick nicely...

we pasteurized in a big room with a kerosone heater that pumps out 200,000 btu's... we are still testing and tweaking the system, we just found this new source of the digested manure, and its working great so far... we actually had some trouble with our last batch, the first with this new poo, where the portabello's did not grow on it at all.. but the blazei is screaming threw it... we are thinking its the spawn, but it came from a large distributor so its interesting.. the blazei i made myself..

so is your manure composted then? because my question is: can agaricus grow on uncomposted manure? or rather does anyone have any experience with it? or are you saying that you are attempting to grow on leeched rather than composted manure?

this is what ggmm has to say

NAtural habitat: grows in soils rich in lignicoloua debris, in mixed woods, well composted soils and along forest edges. this mushroom is a complex SAPROPHYTE and prefers composting soils rich in plant debris. Also grows in well manured grasslands......

so. it seams as if its natural habitat is not on manure alone although the last sentence about growing in well manured grasslands give rise to the idea that manure may be a main source of nutrition.

also ggmm says in the parameters under the heading, substrates for fruiting:
"a simple substrate, described in stamet's(1978), is fresh week old leeched cow manure, commonly available at dairies for a few dollars per truckload. this ready made substrateis pasteurized at 140- 150 degrees for a day, then conditioned at 120-125 degrees for 2 days until the ammonia dissipates. upon cooling below 95 degrees spawn is mixed through

yes. leached rather then composted

still experimenting with it, see stamets GGMM 3rd edition, the one w/ blazei in it, for detailed instructions under its growth parameters
