partially rotten shrooms, to eat or not to eat
    #4371509 - 07/05/05 09:35 AM (11 years, 11 months ago)

Today I received three packages of fresh stropharia cubensis from a dutch company. Unfortunatelly they are almost completely rotten. Two packages contained some dark matter in the form of a lump, floating in smelly bluish water.

The third one contains three rather fat stems which are not deformed but also smelly, but not too much. I'm tempted to try them but common sense says I shouldn't. What is the advice here?

follow common sense. would you eat normal mushrooms if they were in such a state?

Yes, you are right. I threw them away.

I was thinking that boiling them in hot water might kill the bacteria, but that's just maybe.

I always treat my mushrooms just like food. If it's smellin' funky or rotten, I don't eat it.

...and if it falls on the floor for more than 5 seconds, I let the dog get it.
