My 1st time... Overlayed??(Pic)
    #4371396 - 07/05/05 07:19 AM (11 years, 5 months ago)

Hi,

I'm growing Cubensis(Palanque) for very first time.
I read this forum first time today and I findout about possibility
that my casing could overlay. When I compered my casings to
overlayed ones it look like I might have the same problem.

Here's a pic from a casing that have got light for seven days now.
Is it overlayed? What should I do for now on with it?

I got also another box full of casing. It have got light for two days now. I patched white spots today. Any suggestions about this ones future?

Thank you.

If the trays are exposed to light, he is initiating pinning.

Hard overlay is when the surface myc DIES & forms a coating of dead hide over the substrate.

You are close on the first tray, but you should see pins shortly.

Increase fresh air exchange, if you can

Thank you for your quick replies.

So, nothing is lost?
It's not overlayed and it should pin any minute?

About that light cycle.
Does it matter if I don't give them light regularry.
I mean I give them light, but for example sometimes
at 2pm and sometimes at 7am.

A regular light cycle has benefited me alot. More so than just whatever ambient light may get in, ex: a light on a timer.
I see knots on the second pic where pins will be forming. My first ever casing I did looked like that after a week in the fruiting chamber. You will still get fruits but where the mycelium is real thick mine tended not to pin at that particular spot.
The third pic sounds alright since you have patched. Just keep up on it and only apply a very light layer of casing material. Around here I usually see pins forming from the knots in about 7-9 days total in the fruiting chamber.

If you have extra casing mix, I'd sprinkle it very lightly over the first casing. Dont even put a layer, or try to cover the white spots..just sprinkle a bunch of casing mix lightly over it to make the white areas a little more sparse so you provide a nice little microclimate for the primordia.

Growing with bags, start to finish (including my new grain and substrate prep)
Anyone looking to start bulk tubs/mono tubs/shotgun hybrids? Good tubs to use..
How I do grain (old still good tips)
Turn your closet into a fruiting chamber
Casing layer colonization and overlay
