hey guys I was thinking of getting this.

I really don't know how to use it, but you guys think this is OK for the "first timer" I really don't mind spending the money.  Oh and can you let me know how to use it or how it is used? I am guessing it's like KARO but I haven't read up on this. If you don't want to tell me how to use it, can you at least point me at some good reading.

Karo is a liquid culture, those are agar plates. Two different operations. By the time you pay shipping, you're looking at $10 for 5 plates of agar. I wouldn't recommend that. If you're interested in doing agar work, look into some of the kits and agar products offered by Sporeworks.
