Did I screw myself (making syringes)
    #4370114 - 07/04/05 08:09 PM (12 years, 11 months ago)

I got a spore print and I was planning on making 6 syringes from it......I guessed that was pushing the limit on the amount I could make but I said....whatever.

Well I'm an idiot and I ended up putting the print (which was smaller than I expected) into at least 12 syringes worth of water.....maybe more.....EeeekKKK!!!

Well I made them anyway and I was wondering....are they worthless????

Any ideas......everythings in my glovebox right now and I was thinking......wait untill the water evaporates and then make them with the more concentrated stuff thats left......I know its pretty desperate.....

I would appreciate any insight.

Peace - Jutboy

Make a lc with the syringes you do have. The few spores will go along way.

The print was slightly smaller than a quater.

What is an lc? Could you explain the process?

whoah, you spread those spores pretty thin.
an lc=liquid culture. search it and read. there are a few different ways to go about it.
good luck with those syringes.
peace

thats a really small print, but what does that water look like? can you see any spores like little specs floating around or anything?

A print that size could easily make a dozen syringes... if it was dark enough.
If you can see any color tint in the solution when you hold it up to a white piece of paper, or see any thing at all floating in the solution... there are tons of spores in the solution.
If it's crystal clear, chances are that it is also ok, the spores from the print have to end up somewhere, so there will be spores in your solution.
If you think the solution is too thin, just use twice as much innoculant in your jars.
You should be fine.
Five point inoculation works great. Four around the edge and one in the center. You can put 2.5 - 5cc in each jar, and you should be good to go, no matter how light they are.

Enjoy

But wouldn't using twice the amount skew the water ration in the substrate? Perhaps it wouldn;t make that much of a difference.. Goodluck eitehr way.

Should be fine, just shake them well and leave them a few days to absorb water and disperse. Many prefer lighter syringes since there is less chance that you sucked up contams. Say there were 3 contams on your print, now only 3/12 syringes have contams in them. If you sucked it all into a 12cc syringe instead of 12x10cc you would be 10times more likely to transfer the contam to a jar using a given volume per squirt.
