youve seen them in movies like spider man 2 and both versions of war of the worlds..but could it ever be done in RT?..and if so..how?...

Of course it's phsyically possible. You just need a lot of ball-like joints and effecient propulsion. There are already snakelike robots which could be modified into tentacles.
Creators could also use the new field of mechanical muscles and tendons.

apparently there are a few snakebots out there..but any doc ock wannabees shouldnt hold their breaths either...the UK version could easily be expanded into something that mimics as squids' tentacle..once the AI software can achieve enough paralellism...

Hmmmm... I'd go with some form of interchangeable component
segment with actuators at both ends, possibly through the whole
segment. Each segment would ID with a central machine through
Bluetooth or whatever, and the software on the central machine
would control it.

Or they could each have "master" capability, and randomly pick
which leader to follow. That way if a tentacle gets cut in two,
there's just two tentacles instead of one half-tentacle.

Wow, this brainwave generator thing sure is neat. I totally
wouldn't have typed that if I weren't playing with it right now.
