first timer with PF tek... questions

i inoculated my jars up 3 days ago almost, and i'm seeing no sign of growth, also my jars dont look like everybody else's jars, mine looks like dirt, and theirs looks like maybe cookie dough or something more tan. idk maybe just me i just think i fucked something up, because this is my first time ever doing the PF tek. or growing mush at all, could somebody reassure me, also the temp in my house is 80 degrees is that good enough for incubation? i have my jars in a damp dark place, is anything stopping them from growing?

give them some time. 3 days is not long enough to get worried yet. 80 is fine but 85-86 would be better. what is the mixture ratio you used to make the jars? peace

Did you use straight spores or an LC. If you used straight spores then you will not see growth in 3 days, have patients it will start. I would also like to know what mixture you used to make the jars, how they were sterilized etc. maybe we can be a bit more help then.

Well this is my formula, i just posted this but something got messed up and it didn't post wierd. anyways.
2/3 cup vermiculite 1/4 cup BRF 1/4 cup water
that doesn't make sense to me because a 1/2 pint is 1 cup and that is 7/6s of a cup, but whatever. When i inoculated i used a rubermaid container on it's side sprayed the crap out of everything with lysol and wiped everything down with antibactieral stuff. I used gloves and a mask and a hairnet, and i flame sterilized my syringe and cooled with a alcohol wipe, but idk, my jars look like dirty sand,
www.fungifun.org/pf/pf_en.htm#zubereitung
at that website, the tek he uses makes it look like he has cookie dough or something, could somebody tell me what i did wrong?

How did you sterilze them though? I find that if I pressure cooked brf cakes too long then they would look like they were "burnt". This also seems to happen without enough water in the mix.

i steam sterilized them, maybe after the mycelium has taken over, i should dunk them before the first fruiting, but i doubt that i burnt them, well maybe i did, i had alluminum foil lids, no jar lid or anything just 3 layers of Aluminum foil, for good air exchange maybe the tin got too hot and burnt the vermiculite on the top?

Why wouldnt you put lids on your jars? There needs to be air exchange and I dont know how you could have that with 3 layers of tin foil. Maybe the steam got into the jars and over cooked the rice flour. I don't know, seems odd

The soonest I have ever sen any growth is 4 days, and usually it is somewhere between 6 and 8 days. The one personality trait this hobby will strengthen is patience.

Quit worrying man, i worryed all to hell about mine but i just posted pics of my jars after 15 days and it is imazing what can change in that time. Don't let all the talk fool you, this stuff is cakewalk. Just like everybody else said, patience.

i inoculated my first pf jars a few weeks back, one jar showed sign of growth in 2 days and one took over a week b4 it showed any signs, avg prolly 4days i suppose, give it a few more days b4 u worry, if nuthin grows in there least ya know ya sterile techniques are workin.
Foil is fine to use as a lid.

I'm on my first grow and I really thought I inocculated them when they were too hot or something because they didn't show growth until day 6. I even dumped the 1/2 inch of verm off a couple, but hesitated before I dumped the rest, and that was a damn good decision. Some of the teks can be a little misleading...patience is the key, I'm still waiting for my first 12 to fruit.

i know this wasnt a real concern, but I felt like answering anway, the reason its more than a cup is that a lot of the water soaks into the vermiculite without adding to the volume.
