what the hell is wrong with me?
    #4366589 - 07/03/05 04:47 PM (11 years, 5 months ago)

I've been having weird symptoms for over a year now. The glands and lymph nodes on my neck(right side) are all swollen. Sometimes I have pressure in the right side of my head and my right eye. A few weeks back I had severe abdominal pain(also on the right side of my body), but it passed, thank god. Also I get leg pains stretching from my inner thigh all the way down to my big toe(this too is on the right side). All these problems seem to run up and down the right side of my body, but not the left. I've seen a doctor about the swollen glands and nodes on my neck and I was given anti-biotics(which did not help at all). This shit is really getting old, and my doctor hasn't a clue as to what exactly is going on. Maybe it's cancer, but I can't afford any tests(MRI's and such), nor can I afford anymore doctor bills and I really can't afford insurance. I guess I'll just live with it or die from it. I just can't understand why only my right side is affected.

Hmmm. Not sure what is going on and I'm not a doctor. The pain on one side of the body is consistent with shingles, but you didn't mention a rash which usually goes hand in hand with it. Shingles is also a viral infection which would explain why antibiotics (which only treat bacterial infections) was inneffective.

You mentioned taking antibiotics. One thing about antibiotics- they kill ALL bacteria in the body, good and bad. Some bacteria in your gut help with digestion and keep bad fungal critters in check. When that check is removed they are unopposed and can cause widespread fungal infections. You should ideally supplement with acidophilus bacteria, and at the very least eat some yogurt for a few days. (Make sure the yogurt says "live and active cultures" on the side of the container).

I certainly hope it isn't cancer, but if it is and you can't afford to get it checked out you might want to start drinking green tea every day. It has been shown to prevent cancer and prolong cancer patients lives.

If, God forbid, it is cancer you will at least have bought yourself some time to get on a sound financial footing to combat it more effectively. Best wishes to you.

sounds like non-hodgekins lymphoma.
if it was cat-scratch fever you would have cured it with the antibiotics.
are you tired alot?

My father was diagnosed with NHL a couple of months ago. I don't want to scare anyone, but it does sound similar except for the swelling of the lymph nodes on one side only. Another inconsistency is that NHL strikes mainly people over age sixty. He didn' t state his age, but I'm assuming we are dealing with a young man. Not that it's not possible, but less likely. I really pray you don't have anything like that.

You mentioned that your financial resources are limited. Do you have any relatives who could spring for getting you a thorough checkup with a specialist? Then you could at least know what you're dealing with. Many alternative (safe, cheap, non-toxic) treatments are available that are at least as effective as expensive medical treatments depending on what you have. We do know one thing for sure: If your lymph nodes have been swollen for some time, we at least know that your body is fighting something serious and struggling.

You may not be able to afford a doctor, but at least try to eat as healthy as possible to help strengthen your immune system. Sounds like it could use some help right about now.

Thanks for the helpful responses. I am tired alot, also your correct I'm young turning 19 in a month . During the antibiotic treatment I was taking an enzyme supplement that also contains acidophilus, because I knew the anti-biotics would destroy the essential bacteria, also extra enzymes can't hurt. Also I can't seem to keep losing weight no matter how much I eat. On tuesday I'm going to see if I qualify for State medical insurance, although the doctors that accept it arent as good as the pricey docs its worth a try.

Thank you all for your advice.

You are losing weight? Did I read that correctly?

Good luck with the insurance. I'd hate to see you go undiagnosed due to lack of funds.

Oh, and as far as lack of energy goes, two tablespoons of flax oil taken daily will seriously up your energy level. Believe me, I know. I'm taking it daily and no longer need naps in the afternoon, wake up refreshed, even better skin. It will pump oxygen into your body and help bigtime. Give it a try for a month and see if it doesn't help you. Make sure you buy the kind that is in a colored bottle and refrigerated. Flax oil goes rancid quickly after exposure to heat, air, or light.

Do keep us informed on what's going on with you. I hope it's nothing serious.

Yeah I've been losing weight.

Thanks I'll try the flaxseed oil, and I'll keep you all updated.

i know a 25 yr old who had a suspected NHL.  turned out to be goiter.

but the abdominal pain could be liver damage that goes along with NHL, funny thing the liver, it can feel better and get more inflamed.

NHL is the most common cancer to occur in people between 16 and 32, it is also one of the most treatable.

yes its most common in older people, but if youre young and you have a cancer, it IS the most likely.  plus it matches the symptoms.

lymph node swelling usually occurs in the groin and neck. with nhl it can occur in sporadic locations, being locally unilateral is not a reason to rule out NHL.

by the severity of the lymph node swelling, i doubt its goiter. and by the nature youve already undergone antibiotic treatment it CANT be cat scratch fever.

what you should get is a biopsy. in america, if you dont have insurance, and can't afford it, chances are, the doctor  wont suggest a biopsy.  doesnt mean you shouldnt get one.
im no doctor, but i know a thing or two.  and this has the earmarks of NHL.

you know the US has a substantially higher incedance of SIDS.  know why?
if you havent got insurance, and youre not wealthy, the doctors dont check for congenital heart disease and other birth defects.  the babies die suddenly and they call it SIDS.
thats why im grateful to be in canada. my daughter has already undergone open heart surgery, has had many expensive elective vaccinations, MULTIPLE antibiotic treatments, and many bouts of medication, and the doctirs, dispite what americans are led to beleive, are some of the best in the world, the priority treatment is sane and non-class influenced, and any expenses for hospital stays, travel, food, medicines, and lodgings that aren't already covered automatically to all canadians, are refunded 50% in tax returns. (i keep receipts)
my daughter is now in perfect health.
if we were in america, we would be watching her die.
or wake up to find her perished.

my only advise to you i can think of is to MOVE TO CANADA WHILE YOU HAVE TIME. if you get chemo therepy, youll likely qualify for medical marijuana.  warning tho, the government grown stuff is shwaggy.

if you get better by comming to canada. make up for the tax drain youve created by being the best damn canadian you can be.

if you don't have something serious, stay for the sane laws and foreign policies,

I still wonder why they are only swollen on the right side? I'd never get chemo anyway, If i had cancer I'd rather live the rest of my life without pain, vomiting, and being irradiated. I love the canadian govt. but its to cold for me  up there.Thats why I moved down here, to get away from the cold.

Thanks again to all of you for posting you opinions, you shroomerites are so nice
