Dying in a Trip
    #4366151 - 07/03/05 12:49 PM (11 years, 9 months ago)

I was wondering what you had heard or thought about the difference between dying sober and dying whilie tripping. Tripping to me is a mystical experience, and I would imagine so is death. Most of us don't plan our own deaths, so it's kind of a stupid question anyway. Someone said Tim Leary was tripping when he passed, but was that documented? What was the story behind it? I am speaking of the actual moment of death, whatever that is. I should say I'm certain I know that I'll die here, just don't know if I'd know or want to.

aldous huxley had his wife administer LSD to him before he died. for obvious reasons, he never managed to write a trip report.

i've heard that the brain is flooded with DMT when it dies, so i guess everyone trips out when they die. not sure how much truth there is in that though.

personally i would love to be peaking on acid when my time comes.

Life is a mystical experience too, just death seems to come back to life.

Dang. Too bad Aldous didn't log on to a drug forum and tell everyone about how "rad" his last trip was.

Sorry for being a dick. hehhe

I read that while dying, Leary was only on the painkillers and NO2 he was taking for the extreme pain he was in, for like a year before his death. If you've read much about Leary (and I have a lot),you'll know that he took shitloads of nitrous oxide while he had cancer. He had a massive tank in his room full of it.

I'm starting to suspect Leary was at least partly the drugged out crank that some accused him of being (many drug users I meet even look down on him, although it might be because he challenges their ideas of what drugs are).

Yeah. Not only did Aldous take LSD, but he had his wife mainline it for him. He went out with an injection of pure LSD in his arm, charging headfirst into his brain.

I would just as soon die tripping...it is not really a painkiller, but it can help you deal with pain and it is a hell of an anti-inflammatory. I took shrooms once during a horrible tooth absess (I was miserable and thought anything could help. It was Sunday and I could not get a dentist) and the swelling promptly went down and by the time the trip ended it was already starting to heal. It definitely was the turning point at which healing started.

I tried to have fun on drugs and did, but the experience is such that it seems to be practice for dying.

Indeed, it seems a little pointless to take a psychedelic just before dying. Wouldn't that experience surely transcend something that only sometimes "unleashes" an imitation of that transcendence?

Ever seen "Timothy Leary is Dead"? It was the very last interview with him and he seemed as coherent as Leary, being Leary, could be. He didnt seem highly drugged at all. The movie ends with them showing him getting his head cut off.

My guess is there would be little or no difference. Come on, this is death we're talking about here. The big daddy. You won't need any drugs to take the biggest, wildest, most trippy trip imaginable.

I want to go into it with the most open awareness I can muster. I might prefer to be alone just like I do with most of my tripping, just so I can be as present as possible.

UNLESS!---- I am in unbearable pain. Then let me have something to calm it down.

yeah, me and my buddy went to entheogenesis - it's annual even held by BC Marijuana Party's Marc Emery that fitures seminars about psychadelics and its uses and history, etc. then they held a sweet ass psychadelic party that night, couple months back.
This is the same night that me and my buddy did dmt and acid. and probably smoked a quarter ounce each. 2 liquid drops of lsd- 1 for my buddy.
long story told long, after we experienced mind bending dmt, this guy (his suppose to have a lot of knowledge about this subject, he lectured in one of the seminars. Chris Benett, president of POTTV.net told us that dmt affects naturally occurs in human body twice in our life time and thats when we're born and when we die.
so i guess that last 6-12 minutes of brain activity after everything shuts down when a person dies is gonna be induced on some trippy ..something.

i think i would choose dieing sober over tripping. Think about it psychedelics multiply your emotions like x50, imagine the fear that could possible happen while your tripping to your death. It all really depends on if your afraid of death or not.

DMT The  Spirit Molecule by rickstrassman is a great source
But what the quoted guy said is wrong if Dr Rick Strassmans to be belived, he says it occurs 3 times, the 2 allready started but also 49 days after conception, the same point when sex is chosen in the embryo and fingers and toes begin to form ect.
This is also stated in "The Pharmacratic Inquizition" vid by Jan Irvin and Andrew Rutajit
http://www.pharmacratic-inquisition.com/nontesters/pharmacratic/

Rick Strassmans also goes on to say that in budism they are required not to move or tamper with the newly dead for 49 days, (Reincarnation) yet this practice has goner on long b4 the 49 days after conception DMT release was ever known . He postulates that DMT is the chemical that alows our soul to enter and leave our body during birth and death.

DMT, although the psychedelic I'm least likely to ever get my hands on (in pure form at least), seems to be also the most interesting. It seems more tied into the "essence" of life than LSD or mushrooms, which, compared to the stories of DMT, seem like mere fables, peripheral to the true reality.
