Poison Mushrooms To Repel Animals??
    #4365450 - 07/03/05 04:56 AM (11 years, 5 months ago)

Just found the site but I have some outdoor patches going and I've always had a problem with animals coming in.  I'm sure they like the trip as much as we all do as it keeps happening, but it's XXXXX me off .  I've tried traps and repellents and such and nothing works.

So.... anyone ever purposely tried to grow poisonous shrooms around their patches?    That's the only thing left I can think of doing

what sort of pests are you having problems with?
maybe there is some secret shroomer solution we could tell you
seems like it'd be a lot of trouble to cultivate poisonous mushies so near to an outdoor patch, with only minimal possibilites of success.
plus, depending on what species you use, there might be the possibility for confusion when picking.
let us know what pests are bothering yr crops and maybe we can offer you some better answers

dir animals, try fencing over the beds, with insects like slugs, you cant repell them, you need to attract them away with something they like better, beer works on several pests, slugs and snails especialy

I feel you man, for the slugs and snails make a ring of either salt (bad), diatomaceous earth, or copper, and dig some holes and put in plates of beer. For the squirrels and birds, you can cover the patches with some mesh, fencing, piss in the area, throw hair on the ground from a barber, or make shavings of soap and scatter them inthe area.

Sorry, took off for the holidays. I'm not in the US mainland, think much more tropical, much more under developed, and about 18 hours flight away from the mainland. As such our pests are little more exotic. The largest is wild swine and I've seen them in the patch. For smaller pests we have the typical cockroaches and African Snails (huge huge huge snails the size of a hardball), etc... I can't be specific on which ones are attacking the patches except for swine and snails which I've seen however I suspect some birds as well and maybe wild goats.

Is it extreme measure, sure it is. But it's hidden in an area that people can walk even though it's not their land, and putting up fences or such would attract attention which I don't want. There's mushrooms here but nothing exotic and it's my own little relaxation not meant for the locals. Think more of an area like Thailand or such, it's that type of weather and jungle like area. We have a lot of birds but I've never physically seen them. It's more then the snails as you see the patch stopped on and nibbles and such and stems far away broken off.

They gotta be trippin but it isn't affecting them from coming back so it's reall XXXX me off !!! Netting for the one wouldn't do it as it would just bring notice to them and then word will spread left and right and since I'm not local I don't want to raise any red flags.

So that's why I thought maybe trying poisonous mushrooms on the outer ring or so. I wouldn't pick the outer area and it might have a more drastic affect on whatever big or bigger that's getting into the patch.

I know it's strange but I gotta ask for suggestions or help from you folks and I thought maybe someone out there has tried to grow it like this as a deterent. HELP !!! I just checked it this morning from coming back and something had a great 4th holiday even without the fireworks.

They would just avoid the poisonous ones and go right to the good ones.
I've found that ringing with salt (slugs) and spraying around with a little nicotene water (from the butt-can) will keep pests out. Pests don't like nicotene (they sure are smart)

peace

Oh well, worth the question I guess. I'll have to keep trying and experimenting. Too bad I can't sit in the jungle and shoot everything.
