So I've got all my cacti & succulents out on the balcony to soak up some summer sun but it seems the squirrells think my peyote are nuts or something, maybe they just like mescaline... I've lost one little button and I found another uprooted with little squirrel teeth marks in it on the other side of the balcony. I am a little Worried becaus I have repotted the butten but he's all shrivelly and sad looking. Here's a picture. He'll be ok right?
My Real question is I have this white fuzzy stuff on my trichocerus Cuzcoensis, and also some strange holes that look like maybe something was eating at him.... Please have a look at the pics if you know anything about white fuzz on cacti....

Hi,
I know for sure that your cactus button will do allright, because I had the same problem with one. He actually seemed to have a growth shoot after the accident. I waited to water him untill the wound looked dry and allright. Now I don't know what this fuzz is. I guess it's because of that sort of wormhole or something. Maybe you should cut out the hole and replant your cactus. I guess that you could fight that mold with some sort of acidic solution, I once had succes with a solution of vinnagre and and water. But you probably shouldnt follow my advice, I'm no expert. Grtz

Maybe you could spray it with an aspirin solution, this will set up the plants defences,i had a small article few days ago on the shroomery on systemic resistance mediated by salicylic and jasmonic acid.If its some kind of fungus then the plant could produce phytoalexins or other secondary products that hinder microorganisms!

you have spider mites from hell.. get that thing outta there.. or they will spread to everything else.
get some spider mite shit and spray it down .... if your LUCKY you might take down the mite population a bit.. but you will never get rid of them.
your best bet.. put it outside let it fend for itself...
grow a new cactus.
someone should slap the shit out of cultivators who sell mite infested plants... i'm sick of hardcore cleanup after I get a plant from a stupid onlne seller.

Crap... Well I did a little research on spider mites and took a closer look and yes I think they've taken over...
The white fuzz is produced by the mites , the actual mites are these little reddish brown specks that are really hard to see, unless you're looking for them....
I haven't read anything about mites producing holes like that yet.
So this cactus has been living next to all my other plants with this fuzz for a few months now... I really should've addressed this ealier... I hope my other cacti are ok! I will spray them all with miticide... damn..... I read that misting works well to keep mite populations down aswell.
So about the mite infested cacti, I live in an apartment, and I don't really want him on my balcony anymore because he mite infect other plants, soooo....... what if I ate him?
I wasn't really planning on it, but if he's pretty much a gonner anyway.... Any thoughts on eating mite infested cacti? It sounds pretty gross, but with all the cooking down, it could be thought of as just a little added protein?
don't really want towaste him...

Mites are a fact of life around here.
We control them by vigorourly spraying our plants with a spray bottle. Works wonders.
There are chemical means, but I grow my plants organically.

this is prolly your best plan to get rid of the mites.....
it's gonna suck... but your best bet.
take your entire cactus out of the soil. everything...
make a giant tub of soapy water. goto the pet store and by some flea soap... makes the water "wetter" and should drown the shit out of anything.
submerge the entire cactus in the water.
while the cactus is submerged, get new soil... and a new pot.
keep ALL new stuff away from the mite infested shit. ((mites seem to only spread within a 1 - 3 foot radius))
once thats ready pull out your dunked cacti... hose it down good and hard......
re-pot.. and pray.
That should eliminate about 90% of them little fuckers! and more then likly your cactus should survive the dunking.... since you can do this with a cactus and not a plant... the cactus should do just fine.
hope that helps.
