Kero, tek
    #4364161 - 07/02/05 06:54 PM (18 years, 9 months ago)

OK so I am using the microwave Karo tek & I need to know a few things. I am using the new zip lock twist and lock container. It is, 16 OZ, 1 Pint,473 mL. So it's 1 pint.....any way here's what I need to know.

How much water do I put in to how much Karo? I have a scale that goes up to 500g. If that will help me. Also I can cook it at
200,250,or 300 degrees witch would be best for the amount of time?

The easiest way is to use a mason jar fill it up to the 300ml line add one marble and one teaspoon of Karo, cover with plastic wrap and nuke for 5 minutes let cool and you're all set.

You want to measure the liquids by volume not by weight. and it is 4ml of karo to every 100ml of water. I have used the smaller containers that are like the ones you have and am have success. so good luck

You can use a 1/2 pint jar, or a tbsp or whatever you have, and Google will help you convert it to ML for instance: 1/2 pint to ML

ok thremix... here's an easy way to do it for ya.

your ratio should be between 25:1 and 30:1 water:karo.

if you really want to use something thats a pint, leave some rome for air inside too... measure out 250ml of water (a cup is 250ml) then add and 4 teaspoons(2.5ml each) of karo, and stir with the measuring tool your using for a teaspoon and stir until there is no more karo on the measuring tool... then do whatever ya gotta do for sterilization/inoculation.

250ml water : 10ml karo = 25:1

happy trails!

Thanks guys. I need to go buy a measuring spoon lol. Or can I use a small spoon? That's why I was going by weight I can zero out any spoon so if any one knows how much 2.5 Ml of karo would be in weight, that would help. I don't want to go to the supermarket, but I guess I'll go. any way thanks guys!

or you could use the ratio and figure it out without spending money on additional supplies. you have a scale, you have water, you have karo... try figuring out how to judge it by weight...

(make sure you test see if water and karo have different densities)

ml is the same as a cc

so use a syringe

and get a handy dandy 60 cc syringe if you can.

Ok so I did it. I did 2. here is how.

Ok so I took the zip locks (1 cup) added two spoons ok Karo poked a hole in the lid screwed it on and microwaved it for 5.30, at 250%. added plastic wrap and that's about it for that one.

Now this one is the one I hope really works.

I did the same thing BUT. I added another hole (bigger) put some plastic wrap on it and microwaved it for 6.30, at 250%. after that I lifted the wrap (HOT) and I put on the Polly fill in the bigger hole.

now I need some advise. the Polly fill I think I got some Karo water on it while I was putting it in the fridge. Should I change the Polly fill? also How worried should I be about contam.? I know you should always be on alert BUT is it REALLY that picky? One more thing was 6.00 in 250% good? Should it go longer?

to be honest its almost impossible to tell you any true numbers about microwaves cause each microwave varies in power. there is only one way to find out if you did it right, time.
