My Music on new hard drive
    #4363017 - 07/02/05 12:29 PM (18 years, 9 months ago)

I have moved my large "my music" file to a new hard drive. Now the "my music" icon no longer appears in my start menu.

Is there anyway to have my music appear and link to my new harddrive?

Ok, I had a problem similar to this once. What windows operating system do you have? I'm more familiar with 98/98SE/ME/2000 and below. No experience with XP. Ok... now by start menu do you mean the desktop view, or the actual Start menu you access from the button in the bottom left corner of the screen? On my Start menu I only have Programs, Favorites, Documents, Settings, etc. I'm running 98 Second Edition. If its in this area then I can help, just need to browse my favorites folder to find the site I used.

I am using XP. My Music, My Documents, and My Pictures have all disappeared since I moved them to my new hard drive.

I have been able to get My Documents in the start menu and targeting the new harddrive, but not music or pictures.

go to registry

HKEY_CURRENT_USER>SOFTWARE>MICROSOFT>WINDOWS>CURRENTVERSION>EXPLORER>SHELL FOLDERS

change what you need

if you don't experience with the reg. be careful, make a backup

no, you may have to move the "my music" folder to the new location after you change in the reg. though.

This is wierd.

I have My Music file in G:\My Music.  And I restarted the comp., the registry shows G:\My Music as the data under Name:My Music.

Yet when I tell the properties of the start menu to display it as a link, nothing appears at all...

I guess I dont get to have My Music in my start menu :mad2:

yeah... I would think the registry trick should've done it. Is there a website for stuff like this with info on how to change the registry too?

just right-click the folder where you keep your music and "send to..desktop (create shortcut)" - next, drop and drop the shorcut to your start menus (just move it down to the start button). This will put a shortcut onto your Start menu - rename it "my music" or whatever.

Try to search in the menu which appears when you right click eihter your start menu or more likely your "my music" folder.

Fuck Microsoft. They're getting them out worse eveery day.
I get pissed by some Dr Watson shit that closes my programs out of the blue. It's a piece of shit that came along with the SP.

Dr Watson doesn't close your programs, it just logs the errors, and optionally sends the error report to the appropriate software vendor.
It is much like the error reporting service that is also included with windows, and like it, it is non-essential.

to configure Dr Watson: Start > Run > drwtsn32 > OK

to disable Dr Watson (WARNING: if you don't know about the registry, you probably should not do this, at least make a backup):

-Locate and click the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\AeDebug
- Export the AeDebug key to some place you will remember, as you MAY want it back sometime.
- Delete AeDebug
- Restart

Remember, do this at your own risk, but it IS safe to remove DrWatson, and this will do it...
