I've been on this site about a month now and have learned that there is some mysterious pan "something" growing here in SW FL yards (St. Augustine grass). Can someone please tell me more about this unidentified species that is growing all in my yard ? (at least I believe this is the type in my yard) the Does anyone know if they are active? Or is the plate full of them in my frridge a waste of time?
Spore print -- black

Take some tinfoil or white paper and cut a cap of the stem. Leaving about a quarter an in of stem to keep cap off tin/paper. Wait a few hours and see if its black!

Those look worse for wear, but they appear to be pan casters, or pan GG's. They are mildly psychoactive. Check if they are growing out of the thatch, old dead grass that is on top of the soil and below the St. Augustine grass.
These dudes are growing all over Tampa/Brandon area from my personal experience. They fruit more heavily in March when the temps are cooler, but I've seen a bounce back when we started getting more rain.
The more rain, it seems, brings them out of the ground. The mycelium seems to move around and fruiting also probably depends on the PH of the soil. I've never seen them in anything other than St. Augustine lawns that are thick and healthy.
Eat 12-20 of them after verifying that these are indeed the ones. The black spore print is a good indication that they are. Also, the habitat looks correct.
Get them when they are fresh and attempt to pick them from the base in order to get some mycelium to look at. Occasionally, the mycelium on the stem will blue after 5 mins or so if left alone. The mycelium looks like white fuzzy stuff.
These mushrooms are best consumed with ur favorite salad dressing or by themselves
Trip is mellow and very smooth. Don't expect too much like from Cubensis, but it's still beautiful as an experience. I ate 50 once, and don't think that any more than that is gonna make a big diff. 20ish is probably the best.
Take care, and dont' eat anything u are unsure of.

Those look like Pan. GG's. like 83.733423% sure they are. they are like 1/2 as potent as cubes and lose potency after being dried out. double check with the link i sent you to be 100% sure these are what you have. recomended dosage is 8 - 20 caps fresh.

The information is greatly appreciated . The spore print is definitely black.Especiallly about the amount to take and the level of trip. I've got a great collection going. I haven't tripped in 20 something years and I am trying to ease into it. I'm also growing cubes and copes from cow manure that I brought home. I have beautiful photos of those -- so check out the Cultivation forum to see my photos.

Yeah, Stankness these are definetely the same shroom, I take very good care of my lawn, it is thick and is fertilized every 3 mos. I guess the effort of having a beautiful lawn has paid off in unexpected ways. I let you know when I trip on them and post a report,. So you say they are better and more potent fresh? I have not dried them yet., I have been collecting them for 7 days and they are all still in the fridge,

sheister said it right, and those are Panaeolus GG's
and sheister is right, the mycelium "moves", it seems..
they are best eaten when freshly picked, and the trip is mild but quite wonderful and colorful.
most of the their potency is lost once dried.
they taste like your common white button mushroom that you buy at the grocery store, but with a little twist of psychoactivity
