Hppd from Datura
    #4345825 - 06/28/05 01:47 AM (18 years, 9 months ago)

Its been about 8 months now since I decided to try Datura. I ate around 150 dried seeds and a small part of a leaf and gradually began to lose touch with reality. I was camping at the time with trusted friends who knew what my condition was.

After about 3 hours post ingestion I began to notice that I couldnt focus very well at all. The forest took on a ghost like appearance and the ground was moving like liquid. At this point I was having a good time. The only thing I remember from then on is walking down a trail and passing people I knew from work and school. Of course they werent really there, but at the time I couldnt tell.

Anyway, after about 24 hours and lots of sleep I came back to reality somewhat. I still had a hard time focusing and had to piss every 20 minutes. There was also this "snow" in my vision that overlayed everything. I just figured these were normal after effects and shrugged them off.

Now fast foward a week. Im at home on my computer and I still have a very hard time focusing. My eyes take forever to adjust to the text on the monitor. Also they would "unsync" where one eye would be in focus whil the other would not. This worried to the point where I thought "shit, did I do brain damage".

I began to pay close attention to what was wrong with my visual field. I noticed when I looked at the sky I would see millions of tiny "stars" squigging around against the blue background. When I looked at carpet or a wall it would swirl into colored wirlpools or other geometric shapes. When I would go outside at night I noticed my nightvision was completely shot. I couldnt see depth because of the "snow" I mentioned ealier.

Mentally, I was in a fog. I couldnt converse as well as I used to and developed a slight anxiety.

Today most of these problems still exist along with depression because of them. My vision is gradually getting better but the mental fog and anxiety are still present. Basically I feel somewhat "dumbed down" because of the experience.

I have researched a little on the net and not found much other than dramamine causing HPPD in people. So I guess im not alone in the sense that an anti-cholinergic caused my problems.

I still wonder though if I did cause permanent damage because this is hell and I can't imagine living life like this 'till old age. I have quit all drugs except cigs in hopes that it will let my mind regenerate.

I guess the reason I made this post is to first warn people of the dangers of anti-cholinergics. They are the absolute worst things you can do when it comes to long term affects.

Also I would like to know if there is anything I can do to speed up my recovery process? Im guessing I did damage to my acytyl-choline tranmitters. Is there anything to heal those specifically. Supplements such as DMAE and SAM-e are known to work on this area. Should I try these?

Also another interesting thing to note is that cigerettes reduce my visual problem by atleast 50% - sometimes more. And they completely fix the focusing problem I have. It only lasts for about 30 minutes after a smoke though. This is also why I feel that I did damage to the cholinergic neurons. Nicotine binds to those receptor sites, competing with acytel-choline.

But im no neurologist, I just read tons of research articles and drug information in my spare time. Sorry for the long post, I had to get it off my chest.

Datura, if I remember correctly, is supposed to mess with your
choline/acetylcholine system.

Try to eat lots of eggs, or buy yourself some lecithin. these two will
replenish your choline supply.

With the lecithin, I'd take 3 or 4 times the recommended dose. The
stuff can't hurt you, you jsut metabolize it if you eat more than you
need.

edit: D'Oh! I only read the top half of your post. That makes some
of this post redundant, but oh well.

Thanks for the reply. I usually make an omelet for breakfast when I get the chance. Indeed, eggs are a very good source of choline.

this may help you out with the visual blindspot problems (though it kind also aggtrevate it)

http://www.navaching.com/hawkeen/mandala.html

do these mandala excercises as prescribed until you can feel your left/right brain (and eyes) "synch" or at least use the first one to see whether you have a solid eye dominance or not, but if you do it regularly it will make you kind of switch dominance for a while until the brain decides which eye it wants to adjust to again.

i have similar "problems" with looking at the sky (always have since my pet frog died when i was 6 or 7, which is interesting) and with having trouble focusing on text..... what is your diet like? You may try eating healthier and excercising a lot, and you probably want to talk to a doctor about it but I'd reluctant to take any medicine they want to give you without thoroughly researching it.

I can't say as to whether datura messed up your brain but most of what you said sounds at least somewhat "normal".

you might want to give meditation a try as well.

Thats a very cool site. Its like a workout for your corpus callosum and eye muscles. I could get the first image to sync and lock fine but like you said it would switch from left to right every few seconds. The second one I couldnt get to lock at all. Ill have to give it another try later.

I already had HPPD before I took datura. After datura the condition worsened.

I enjoy HPPD. I see it as an artist tool.

HPPD is a trippers porno.

Man, you wanted to try datura so you started with.....150 seeds? Why not 5? Why not one? I won't kick you when you're down. That's a rough scenario you're in. But it sounds like you're doing good research. At least through this experience you'll realize some useful things about neurochemistry. I for one am interested to hear how your experience develops...
