    #4359059 - 07/01/05 12:19 PM (12 years, 25 days ago)

I was cutting my lawn when i found some mushrooms growing on my lawn and as i saw some i saw some more and decided to pick them and show them to you guys and im hoping you can tell me what they are since im fairly inexperienced in this.

a. Habitat (where [state/province/country] and what does it grow on)- Connecticut, Northeast US, it growed on a lawn
b. Characteristics of the gills (color, attached/not, gills/pores, etc) All of the mushrooms has gills, all mushrooms have tan to light brown gills, no pores
c. Measurements of cap and stem. All caps an inch or less. Stems being 3.5 to 1 inch.
d. Characteristics of the stem (color, texture, hollow/solid, thin/thick, etc) Colors vary from white to tan. Texture is smooth. top right mushrooms and bottom mushrooms have hollow stems and the top left mushrooms having solid stems.
e. Characteristics of the cap (color, texture, conical/spherical, convex/concave, etc) - Top left having a very concave shape. Color varys from light tan to dark brown. Bottom mushrooms have a very smooth and concave cap. Top left mushrooms having a smooth and concave cap with little lines on the edge of caps and top right have a very cone like cap with little lins, mushroom cap colors vary from light tan to a dark brown.
f. Spore print color (very important!)-
none taken yet
g. Color that the mushroom bruises-
not sure
h. Scent of mushroom-
no real strong scent or scent at all.

Thanks,
Magical

The top left specimens are probably Agrocybes; the top right are Conocybes. Neither of these mushrooms are active or edible.

The bottom ones look like possible actives. You will need to make a spore print and tell us what color the spores are.

Remove the stem and place the cap gills down on a piece of white paper and cover with a drinking glass. Wait for several hours (over night is best) and you should see spores accumulating under the cap. Tell us what color the spore deposit is.

I'm from CT aswell and found the ones on the top right and possibly the bottom ones in my lawn today. I also might have found the ones on the top left today in a cow pasture.

With some much needed help (from GGreatOne234) on my own ID it was concluded that the samples I had of the ones on your top right were a Conocybe, I thought mine were probably Conocybe tenera. The ones you have on the bottom are probably Panaeolus foenisecii which mine turned out to be but maybe they will be the active Panaeolus subbalteatus (do the spore print like everyone else is saying, hope for black).

I might have also ran into the ones on the top left you have down in a cow pasture, but have no idea what they are, I myself need some help ID'ing them.

If you want to compare the top right and bottom mushrooms with mine:

Also, please help me with my ID on the ones similar to your top left:

There are several species of active Conocybes, but they are rare. Your Conocybes are most likely C. lactea which is not active. They are probably the second most common lawn mushroom, right behind Panaeolina foenisecii.
