Cute little baby Cubes on microwaved substrate PHOTO
    #4358382 - 07/01/05 04:56 AM (12 years, 2 months ago)

Heres the little fellas.

People say bulk substrates make larger shrooms, this shows that a small sub gives smaller ones. The biggest one has a fully broken veil now. The pic is not very clear since there is starch from the wheat on the sides of the jar.

strain is Koh Samui
Heres the growlog with more details

Thanks, it is only a tester, not like it is going to be a big yeild! but now I can clone one. I am trying more microwave experiments now with more wheat. That is only 20g, I have 250g microwaved and ready to go. I think I may have cracked microwave sterilization of grain once and for all. I need more people to try it though.

Weighed in at just over 15g wet. Seemed quite dry, my scales is not working now so I can't tell the dry weight. 15g is not too bad for a wet sub of about 40g. It doesn't look like there is much more action. I will still leave it to see if I can get a second flush. I have cloned one with a tissue syringe and H2O2 and it seems to be taking off in another jar.

Seeing these and looking at a picture of Treasure Coast shrooms I was wondering something about small shrooms. AFOAF showed AFOM a pretty big bag of mushrooms (probably like a lb) and all that was in it were little dried mushrooms about 1-2 inches (5cm) tall. Is this just a bag of a ton of aborts, is it a strand, or were they grown in a ton of really small containers like this one. My friend would love to know how he could always get little mushrooms because they look cool.

If you want small shrooms, use a thin substrate..somewhere around an inch in depth.

That sub was less than 1/2" thick with a very thin verm casing. It is less work to harvest big shrooms though. They were all good spore producers though I didnt collect any spores. It looks like it may be spent in its first flush. The only advantage I see is that it may suit people who stack their trays, since they are short they could be stacked closer. Also having a tray spent in its first flush means less chance contams setting in.

What sort of wet weight would people expect per 100g of wet grain in say the first flush of a 3" casing? This was about 38g fresh per 100g wet grain.

100 grams wet is how much per quart? One quart of rye done well and cased 2 inches thick would get me 20-30 grams on the first flush usually and 14-25 on the second, dried that is.

Flush 3 was 20.8g. I was looking for typical biological efficiencies of cube grows. Seems 200% is about normal. i.e. 100g of dry substrate should yeild 200g of wet fruits. My grow is over 200% BE at the moment.
