Dried Reishi smells like paint
    #4357814 - 07/01/05 02:24 AM (12 years, 4 months ago)

I am new here, so I hope I am posting at the right place. I have been making my own tea w/ reishi from the Chinese Herbalist in town.
My first box smelled OK (never smelled it before but it didn't smell "bad") I bought another box, got home, opened it up and it smelled like I had opened a can of paint. Took it back and he gave me another box. This one has a slight paint odor, but not as bad.

Please advise if this difference between batches is normal or not. I read online that reishi can be tainted with mercury if not cultivated properly. Could this have some bearing on the smell, or am I just over-reacting? I am new to using reishi and have very little experience in this area.

Many thanks in advance.
