I Heard somewhere that Amanita muscarias refuse to grow anywhere but in the wild... is this true?

I remember a picture on Erowid a while back of Amanitas being grown indoors.

That is theoretically impossible, because i know that with enough $, knowledge, and resources we as humans can simulate ANY enviroment...

its been done in japan or something.... but why spend your time on a mushy that is a pain in the ass to grow and you dont even get a good trip off it.

This doesnt mean, we as humans, can recognize the part of the environment that they need. Besides simbiotic relationship with trees..

yes, you're right, i have no desire to cultivate amantia, i was simply stating that it can be done. trying to answer lefty's Q, and not questioning his reason for asking ya know...

I heard that this dude who owns one of those big ethnobotanical websites gets his amanitas by owning a christmas tree farm... a BIG one...

I think Amanita muscaria is a beautiful species. A trip report shouldn't judge whether or not someone should grow a new species. I would support growing a HUGE Amanita and having as the center piece in ones apartment/home living room. That would rock. Besides that, the knowlege in mycology needed to support indoor cultivation of such a fragile fruit would be very impressive! Some should learn to appreciate things in nature for raw beauty...
