In preparing my casing soil I accidentally poured too much water in the bowl and ended up with casing soil that I thought would be too wet. Just as an experiment I applied the soil to some of my jars. Within two days mycelium had popped up through the casing soil and I got a perfect pinset. My other jars (cased with drier soil) have mycelium growing all up the side of the jar between the glass and the mycelium block but none in the middle of the casing (my usual problem). Does having really wet casing soil help or was my experience a fluke?

to your jars what are you talking about jars ????????

i believe stamets says to use a wetter casing layer than most of us use. i could be very wrong here though. i know i have read it somewhere. i am going to try a little bit wetter casing material on my next batch and see how much difference if any comes out of the poo.
peace

As any experienced mycologist will know mycelium thrives in a nearly saturated environment. If a casing gets saturated during preparation simply add more dry verm to get it at near saturation. Peoples idea of moist can very significantly, reading my Getting the most out of your casings!, A pinning strategy. thread will show you EXACTLY what near saturation actually is. GL
