Very.

Just like the head of the CIA last week stating they have a "very good idea" of where bin Laden is hiding, but haven't captured him because...they respect the sovereignty of other nations.

Actually they don't respect their sovereignty. You hear about how we snatched some some suspect from a country a few weeks ago and now the country is pissed; I think it was Italy too. There was some in their country that we wanted to question but Italy couldn't arrest them, so we had our G-Unit bust in there and just straight up kidnap his ass.

We probably know what country he is hiding in and that's about it, not the address, area code, and city... hole?

I wonder if we pulled all of our people out of Iraq if they would stop blowing eachother up. Do you think the middle east will ever be a peaceful place?

Bush's speech was very good. Our options concerning Iraq are limited, but only 2 choices are viable.

1.) Do exactly what Bush says

2.) Claim victory over saddam and the Iraq insurgents. Remove troops immediately and hand over anti-insurgent operations to the Iraqi's. Affirm that we've done more than enough to their reconstruction and that Iraq no longer serves as a viable military interest.

We cannot, however, set a time-table. That is just setting us up for a loss by playing the waiting game with the terrorists.

From President Bushs speech last night:

"America and our friends are in a conflict that demands much of us. It demands the courage of our fighting men and women, it demands the steadfastness of our allies and it demands the perseverance of our citizens. We accept these burdens because we know what is at stake. We fight today because Iraq now carries the hope of freedom in a vital region of the world, and the rise of democracy will be the ultimate triumph over radicalism and terror. And we fight today because terrorists want to attack our country and kill our citizens, and Iraq is where they are making their stand. So we will fight them there, we will fight them across the world and we will stay in the fight until the fight is won.

America has done difficult work before. From our desperate fight for independence, to the darkest days of a Civil War, to the hard-fought battles against tyranny in the 20th century, there were many chances to lose our heart, our nerve or our way. But Americans have always held firm, because we have always believed in certain truths. We know that if evil is not confronted, it gains in strength and audacity and returns to strike us again. We know that when the work is hard, the proper response is not retreat, it is courage. And we know that this great ideal of human freedom entrusted to us in a special way and that the ideal of liberty is worth defending. "

All I can thinnk is that there must be more money for the private contractors and Bush's cronies in taking a whipping in Iraq for years than any other option. After all if everything you build gets blown up the next day the US contractors can charge the Iraqis to rebuild it endless times.

At least Bush is relatively exciting and unpredictable. :smirk: How often in your life will you see situations like there are today?

. After September 11, I made a commitment to the American people: This nation will not wait to be attacked again. We will take the fight to the enemy. We will defend our freedom.

Iraq is the latest battlefield in this war. Many terrorists who kill innocent men, women and children on the streets of Baghdad are followers of the same murderous ideology that took the lives of our citizens in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania.

It is very obvious that the intention of that speech is to connect the insurgant terrorism with al-Qeuda terrorism. He uses the two as completely interchangable, and attempts to get people to associate 9/11 with Iraq. Unfortunately, many American's attention span is short enough to get away with this. Iraq had absolutly nothing to do with al-Qeuda, another one of the long list of lies which has been proven wrong. Yet we're stuck with this as a reason why the Iraq war was justified, according to a small group of people. Bush is using the deadly attacks in Iraq as a political weapon to further his own ideology on how to fight this, so-called "War on Terror".

I do think that leaving the country, unless a suitable replacement was found, would be inviting total choas. I don't disagree with that, however there is so much rhetoric about terrorism and fighting it that I can not understand how anyone can believe the context Bush is trying to convey.

The American people do not falter under threat and we will not allow our future to be determined by car bombers and assassins

I thought it was the Iraqi people who had to put up with that, because of America's involvement in their country, not the American people. It's so clear that these types of speechs are designed to instill fear into people.

Incorrect.

Iraq had plenty to do with al Qaeda. They may have had nothing to do with the planning and carrying out of the 9/11 attacks, but Hussein's Ba'athist regime had a long and comfortable relation with al Qaeda. There are several posts in recent threads showing this to be the case.
