Why not just make a regular casing with them, they are fine. Probably just nice and fully colonized.

They can last a long while, a couple of weeks is nothing to fret about.
You don't need coir or poo, just get some peat you can find that anywhere.

I believe long ago in a galaxy far, far away potting soil was used. I believe thats what the "Doctor" in that mush cult film used, potting soil.

there are different kinds of cactus mix, i guess, but what i'm familiar with is mostly coarse vermiculite, perlite, peat, oyster shell, and some chems. similar to miracle-gro plant food. now that i think about it, wonder why it hasn't been tried before? gl, meanman

I think I remember hearing on here that the chemicals helpful to plant growth are not so to mushrooms.

Could you imagine if miracle grow worked for shrooms. I'd like to see a pic of someone standing next to a 35 pound mushroom, lol. Big smile on their face telling us all how they did it on miracle grow.

Seed starting material like Jiffy and Sunshine mixes are fantastic casing layer materials. I use them contantly with great results. You can get 3 cubic yards of it at Lowes for $11. That's enough to last quite sometime. And it's buffered to have the proper ph balance also. No pasturizing required IMO.

I've been looking for some. For some reason the Wal-Marts and Lowe's don't carry it in my area.
