Poo coloniztion temps

I'm using a single tub, and my poo is about 85% colonized. It's incubating at 72 deg. I know lower temps are better w/ poo, but do you think 80 would be too high just to finish it. :cool:

I think it would depend on the amount of poo you are using? A lot of poo generates more heat.

the best thing for you to do would be to go a supermarket and get a meat thermometer stick it into the middle and get a core temp you can most likely go higher than 72 unless its a very large tub

It's not very big, only about 5 qt's of poo w/ 2 pts of spawn. I think I'll give it a try and just keep an eye on the temps. Thanx guys. Peace! :thumbup:

Here's what I found after lossing a few poo casing's to "fermentation". My casing that are 1 square foot or smaller, with a sub layer of 4 ", are fine at 80 degrees. Anything bigger and "fermentation" gets me at 80 degrees. I have a 35 pound poo( 14 quarts WBS) casing 8 " deep incubating at 70 degrees right now. I have a remote sensor in the center of the casing. While the ambient temp is 70 degrees, the center temp. is running between 81-82 degrees. 11-12 degrees over ambient. Big poo casing's really do generate a great amount of heat.

hmmm, mine is about the same as your small one in substrate depth. Maybe slightly bigger in square footage. Can femantation still happen even when it's almost 100% colonized?

If it is working for you - don't change anything. Be patiant, its colonizing - let it finish. Just my humble opinion.

My poo casings are being incubated at 84-87 F. They are all small to medium sized aluminum trays. I haven't experienced any problems so far but do you think it might be a little too hot for poo?

Grrrrr. Patience is deinitly not a virtue of mine, but in this art I guess it's a must. By the way they are b+, and I've heard they are known for being slow pokes. Any input on the fully colonized fernentation Q. BTW Agar your humble opinion is always appreciated ! :grin:

That's a little too hot for cakes,lol.
You might want to back it down a little. The aluminum pan will probably keep heat in also.

Funny thing, room temperature here is 83.9 F
I have shut off the heating pad and placed the casings into my closet where they will spend the rest of the incubation period, which brings me to another point.

Here in southern Ontario the temperatures have been hanging around 84.0 for the past two weeks or so. This makes me wonder, how the hell am I ever going to be able to fruit these casings?

Sorry. And I thought only the U.S.A had ridiculous rules,lol. Too bad it stays that hot. Most basements I've been in are usually not that hot. I think I saw someone on here with the same problem. I believe they used some little cooling thingy like a portable A.C. Just had to vent it outside like you do a dryer, with the same type of duct you use for a dryer. Hope this helps.

in my experience B+ is good, to fairly fast colonizer.
so, the temp may be a little low. but, i would suggest not raising it too quickly.
put a temp prob in the substrate, and see where you're at.
maybe go to 74-75F and watch it closely. if the mycelium should leap-off, it could well raise the temp vary quickly.

Yea, surprisingly there is only about 3 degree difference +/- in this basement comparing to outside. And when it cools down in the evening, it's actually warmer in the basement.

Talk about rediculous rules lol. American toilet flush regulations suck, 13.5 litres per flush is not enough. I think the Canadian standard is 15 litres.
It hurts me just to think of those poor, thirsty Etheopian kids...tisk tisk :nonono:
