Pf cake Tyvek Question, Need answer Stat!!!!!
    #4347685 - 06/28/05 07:48 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

Okay, i just whipped up s shit load of cakes and i didnt realize i was so low on vermiculite. Can the tyvek be used instead of verm if i leave about 14/ to 1/2 inch open space on top. My biggest concern is that contams might get in during the inoculations. I used poly fill in some of the jars instead of verm but i ran out of that also.

yes.. the verm was just a contam barrier to begin with. I wouldn't invert the jar, though. ever.

inverting is for wet jars, so yes what? Yes that just tyvek will work.

Hey, I tried this on two of my last cakes. Didn't have any problems. Used poly-fil for the inoculating holes and just tyvek. Both came out fine. You should be O.K. Tahoe. Peace.

Mine were LC's though and were done in 10 days.

incorrect, inverting is for jars having a stalling problem due to CO2 buildup,
wet jars are prone to bacterial contaminants

Just kiddin pris, i know its for stalling, i have only had stalled jars due to tight substrate or water making a thick cake

if im to late oh well but tyvek works fine if ur going to use tyvek for now on punch some additional holes in the lid I go with 4 more and use a band-aid over the injection holes. You probably could leave even less space on the top.
