Hygrocybes form mycorrhiza with grasses. They cannot be grown in absence of their plant mate.

Quote:

Ecology: Saprobic in conifer and hardwood forests; growing scattered to gregariously; spring through fall; frequently on embankments along wooded roadsides; widely distributed in North America.

I have never found a Parot Mushroom so I can't help you with spores, but Saprophytic mushrooms are usually not too difficult to cultivate.

Quote:

Habitat
Solitary to scattered to gregarious in damp soil, moss, humus; most common under redwoods; November through January.

Redwood needles seems a likely ingreedient in an experimental substrate.

Good luck.

I've always found them in grassland, but here is the explanation:

http://www.aber.ac.uk/waxcap/

Quote:

The association of the European waxcaps with grassland habitats contrasts with the situation in the North America where Hygrocybe spp. are typically considered as woodland species. The reason for this difference in habitat is unclear, though it may be related to similarities in summer soil temperature between the grasslands in the Atlantic regions of Europe and the woodlands of North America.

And here is Tom Volk's note about Hygrocybe mycorrhiza and its cultivation

http://botit.botany.wisc.edu/toms_fungi/oct2001.html

Quote:

Hygrocybe and Hygrophorus species are reportedly mycorrhizal with both hardwoods and conifers, although I've yet to see definitive proof. They certainly are difficult to culture, indicating that there's something (essential nutrients?) missing in "normal" media.
