Brown on cake Edit: With Pics.
    #4346585 - 06/28/05 11:42 AM (18 years, 8 months ago)

I've searched but I can't find anything that looks quite like this. Is it cinnamon brown mold or something else? Not sure what to do. Thanks in advance.

Actually it was birthed about four days ago, after a 24 hour dunk. Another cake from the same batch has something in almost exactly the same place that looks the same, just a little bigger.

got a cuetip? rub it lightly with a cuetip or a tissue and see if the color rubs off at all.

ok, here's a pic of the second cake:

Yellow arrow: original pic
Red arrow: second tumor thing
Blue arrow: wiped with a h2o2 dipped q-tip

Nothing came off when I rubbed with the peroxide q-tip, but when I rubbed it with a dry one brown came off.

How bad is it doc?

i hate to be a douche but can you take a closeup of that second cake? still doesnt really look like a contam. but you say it wipes off so it might be one. is the blue arrow area liquidy? kind of looks like myc piss. either way just keep an eye on it, if its just a tumor it wont grow very much, if its a contam it will spread quickly.

sounds and looks like bacteria, ive had shit that looks bright red and a rust orange

i think h2o2 is your best bet of you might be able to cut it out and then spray wole thing with h2o2

Not at all, I'm gratefull for all your help!

Here's the close up you asked for.I don't think it looks slimey, but like I said thats where I wiped with h202.

And here's a better shot of the first cake where you said it looked like spores, I'm not sure what the hell it is, I just noticed it after you pointed it out.

Thanks again!

:-\ yeah that looks like some bacterial contam in the first pic.and if there hasnt been any mature fruits around to drop spores on that first cake then i'd say its definetly some mold. i'd get them out of there before it spreads to more cakes. burry them outside if you live in a nice climate. you'll prolly still get some frutis off them.

I must have had a stoner moment, the pic that looks like spores, that I said wasn't spores, IS spores. That cake hasn't fruited, but one right next to it did last week, and upon closer inspection the spot it purpleish.  :blazed:

As for the brownish looking ones, I guess I'll separate them and see what happens.

Thanks again, and if you or anyone else has anymore advice, I'm all ears.

The only thing I did to the pics is add circles and arrows, and I don't see any spots on the circle.

The brown doesn't seem to be getting any bigger. The cakes colonized quick and are pinning nicely, so I still don't know what to do.

good luck with them
peace

Well hears a kicker, since it's on 2 cakes it stuck me Immediately as bacteria (or mold but I'm betting on the former) that spread.
Sorry,
Take care
