Turkey dung?
    #4346450 - 06/28/05 12:52 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

Has anyone ever heard of using turkey dung as a substrate? My neighbor has some that she uses in her garden and she said she got it from a friend that works at the mushroom factory. Her friend said it makes the mushrooms pop up over night. Anyone have any idea if this is true?

you could find out if this is true or not by finding out what a turkey eats. I would assume that if any animal ate a straight grain diet, thier poo would work fine. I also heard something once that animals such as cows have good substrate poo not only because of the fact that they eat straight grain, btu also because they have multiple stomachs. not sure of the truth in that one.

I beleive the cow has too many stomachs and that's why the stuff works but unless you get some nice and dry patties, i guess it's a little soupy to work with. on the subject at hand, the grain diet is good thinking but my concern is with the acidity and the amount of nitrogen.

ah the newguy comes through. i didnt even think about that. You could get something to measure pH with and test it out... 7.5-8.7 is optimal right? i think agar told me that once. I would imagine that fucking with the pH of a substrate would be adding a step that you dont need to deal with if you just got some Hpoo.
