ID help
    #4346180 - 06/28/05 07:38 AM (18 years, 7 months ago)

I went for my first hunt today, spent hours and hours walking and found many different varieties of mushrooms however only one type came even close to matching the description of any actives in Aus, however I'm fairly sure they aren't active. I'm not planning on eating them (unless you guys tell me otherwise  ) but just curious because they look very nice.

Just wanted to know if anyone can confirm what they are and if I'm looking in the right place.

When I found them it seemed as if they were already stained blue and I thought maybe it was because of the rain. They deffinately did go a little dark when I pinched the stem but it looks more purple than the dark royal blue usually seen in subs etc.

Habitat: South western NSW. Found growing amongst eucalyptus trees, in amongst the twigs and leaves and thick *clumpy* grasses (damn thoses grasses grows thick!).

Spore print:

Cheers!

Those are one of the many species of purple Cortinarius. They should be considered poisonous.

Thankyou so much, you saved my life! (jk  )  Well, that was an unsuccesful event :frown:

When looking for shrooms in South western (south coast) NSW would you guys recommend looking in "rainforest" type areas, eucalyptus woods/forests, or pine (state) forests the most??
