cubie question
    #4344643 - 06/27/05 09:39 PM (11 years, 5 months ago)

i am relatively inexperienced with shroooms and have been doing lots of reading and looking at pictures. i live in southern louisiana...and a friend of mine that has some experience with shrooms told me that the cubies will have a veil that falls and hangs around the stem that is a dark purplish color and that is a sure way to know its a cubie.... is that true or is there a possible poisonous look alike with a veil as well?thanks in advance

if it's in cowpoop, looks like a cube, and has a purple veil.. your chances of finding a "poisonous" look a like is so slim.. galerina margintina (spelling, i don't know..) tricks some new people.. but they really look nothing like cubes IMO.

the dark purplish color on the stem would be from the spores.

Blue bruising on the stem/stalk from handling them is another way to tell.

just squeeze the stem a tad, until you feel moisture flowing. and give it a little bit to bruise and it should be fairly obvious.
look, the small one in the middle has bruised a hard blue:
