Meditation... input required!
    #4344231 - 06/27/05 07:28 PM (12 years, 1 month ago)

Hey all,

I want to practice and eventually master some meditation techniques for use of trips to make them more interesting. Problem is that I have no idea where to start, there are so many techniques! So i'm asking all of you meditation guru's for help

Thanks!

Put a blanket on the floor. Roll up a towel and sit on that, so that your seat(your butt) is elevated. Sit cross-legged if you can, or if flexible the half lotus or full lotus is preferable.

The point of the elevation is ultimately to make a tripod between your seat, and your two knees that should be on the floor. Now try to sit up straight. Your belly will kinda stick out, like the Hotei Buddha (the laughing Buddha you see everywhere).

Now all that is just posture and flexibility. You will have to practice this sitting and stretch many times in order to sit for longer lengths and to be able to sit in full or half lotus.

If you can't do this, maybe you want to straddle the towel, maybe 2 towels, and then make yourself straight on your knees. This is a different sitting posture that some people do with meditation cusions or even small benches, its called the Burmese posture.

Next, relax your shoulders. Let them fall down, and keep your hands in your lap, one lightly over the other.

I don't close my eyes because sometimes I have trouble staying complete awake and alert. So you may close your eyes if you feel like you can stay up, or just gaze slightly downward at the floor.

Here is where the magic comes in. As you breathe in, say silently (in your mind) "hum". As you breathe out, say again silently "sa". Do this for 10 minutes. Thats good enough for a first time.

The very first time, I followed the Hum, sa mantra and after 10 minutes I was laughing uncontrollably because I just felt so happy.

Good luck.

There are good books for meditation, check Barnes and Noble.

Last time; I layed flat out on my bed ; and I started to control my breathing...

Next thing I know, I was thinking about flying in the air, and you've guessed it, I really felt like as if I was flying for real.
Euphoric moment

Sometime before that, I meditated on the peak; and I imagened how it must feel for a female to experience an orgasm; and as you guessed it, I experienced it... :| Most uplifting and sexual moment of my life.

I really like to meditate, it enables you to practically feel everything you have ever wanted to feel.

oh man meditation is amazing while tripping.  Just sitting up strait, shutting your eyes, and 'watching' your thoughts flow through the endless mental tape reel for a few minutes is enough to bring endless hallucinatory scenes...

I know that the hallucinations are considered distractions in most meditation practices, but we're tripping here, cmon!  they're amazing.

This Mantra is Secret, and is very similar to my personal mantra that i recieved from a Yogi during initiation, which is also a secret. if combined with certain visualization(which i am not at liberty to discuss) this mantra is very powerful. keep meditating, you have no idea how much benefit you will receive from it; both now, and in future incarnations.

just for conversation.. i read this thing in national geographic about brain functions and in this one study they were explaining how happiness is attributed to a specific brain structures' activity. It's measured by hooking someone up to a machine and observing the disturbances. They tested this monk and concluded that he is quantifiably the happiest man on earth. For a better explanation try looking it up on google. Food for thought. it was quite interesting.

yeah, that book is the best beginner guide i've seen for the vipassana type meditation.
