Here's my parrot cookie, he has a vocabulary of about half a dozen words. Who else on Shroomery has parrots for pets?

I LOVE parrots. For 1/12th of my life I was obsessed with them, until I got a horse instead.

They're so freaking smart...I think I read that African Gray's have the intelligence of a 3-5 year old.

Parrots are cool, but they can bite your finger/ear/nose off with ease.

You're correct.

He has a plucking problem from stress from his previous owners

Plucking is a common occurence with Cockatoos when they have had multiple owners.

Mine can say:

"Hello"
"Cookie"
"Hello Cookie"
"Pretty Bird"
"Bye Bye"
"Whats up doc"
"Whatcha doing"

And the favorite thing that comes from his beak is loud ear piercing screams all day & night :bitch:

They can be loud, a sound not unlike a pterodactyl I imagine. They make great alarm clocks, theres no way to sleep through one of those things screeching in the early morning.

Multiple owners/bad owners. These birds are very social. They need to have a family and need to be part of the daily rituals a family goes threw. Leaving them in the cage is like locking a child in its room.

I had a peach cockatoo, previous owner died. Peaches became a plucker turned mutilator. We made special vests that covered the chest to keep him away. That bird kicked ass. Died of a thyroid problem. My mom never cried at any ones funeral. Not even her fathers. She was hysterical over Peaches.

Parrots are so smart so funny and have such personalities. When i settle down i could see myself having one. But untill then my dog is a good pet.

That's the most generic parrot vocab I've ever seen.

I also owned a very large pink Mollucan Cockatoo a couple years back but gave him back to the adoption agency. He was about the size of an owl & just as f***in' crazy as Cookie.

Seems like the previous owners had children, from that vocab list.
