Happy Monday Everyone
    #4342203 - 06/27/05 08:19 AM (18 years, 9 months ago)

Is everyone excited that the weekends over?  Yeah, neither am I.  I had my oral surgery on Friday, got 3 teeth yanked...so my weekend consisted of being babied by my boyfriend, watching movies, eating soft food, and icing my jaw. Oh, and eating ridiculous amounts of percoset  :smirk:  I think I watched like 15 movies this weekend, in a 3 day span.  Now I'm back to work, with a sore jaw, and I wish I was still home, relaxing.

How was everyone's weekend?

Hell yes!   They wanted me to have general anesthesia, but I didn't want that. So I got nitrous and lots of novacaine.  I felt nothing during the actual procedure, but it has been sore as hell since then.

Booooooooooo, mondays.

I do shift work, so I don't usually don't really get real weekends off.  Sometimes I don't even realize it's the weekend.  I don't have to be at work until 5 tonite, so I might go the beach today.

Only problem with that is that all my friends have kids and they are really weird about having thier kids out in the sun, so I might be going by myself.  :frown:

My Monday's not such a big ball of excitement. Right now I'm wrapping up the last paper I'll EVER have to write for college. After today all my obligations to my university are severed and they send me my diploma! That has to be done by 5 PM - I always leave everything till the last minute.

Then at 6 is my girlfriend's grandma's funeral service...and then gonna watch the Yankees game.

Sorry to hear about your girlfriend's loss :frown:

That's awesome about your last paper EVER though! What a weight off your chest

How bout them Red Sox, eh?  :smirk:

Heh, last night's Yankee game was just what we needed...a last minute, bottom of the 9th two run blast to give us a solid come-from-behind win. Sox are doing awesome though, since the Orioles got trampled in interleague play. We play them next so hopefully they'll go down three notches while we move up!

My girlfriend's grandma was in a nursing home for years, so you know...it was kind of expected. Not gonna be a big event at all.

I don't even know why I'm in today... there's really no reason for me to come in.

I want to work from home on mondays.

my weekend was pretty relaxed. friday night I don't know what I did... I suspect I stayed in and smoked out of my new hookah. Saturday was almost a repeat performance but gillette saved me (and herself) from boredom and we went out for drinks. The waitress tried to cut me off at 2.

Yesterday I celebrated fathers day late (because I was at the gathering) and then hung out with my lady.

horay for a 4 day week!

blink, that picture you linked me too was hilarious. It doesn't even look like the same person!!

Right now I'm on an endless weekend. Graduated, unemployed, smokin pot, and lovin' it.

mmm monday! shit. i was up late working yesterday, spent the day mailing some things and printing confirmations for my plane tickets at the library (no printer at home  ), and then coming home and working until now...

then i took a joint break (the first of the day, at 16:15! gasp!), and now have to get back to work.

but... i'll leave for france on wednesday night, and then have a week on the beach!!! :sun: so monday isn't so bad, after-all.

Games behind games shmehind. We'll all make it to the playoffs and that's where it'll be decided. I really don't think the Yanks will slip out of the wildcard spot, and they'll probably move up to #2.

In all seriousness, those chants break out EVERYWHERE. I was at a hatebreed show about a year ago, and their bassist was wearing a yankees tshirt. The whole crowd starting screaming, throwing shit at him, and chanting. Sometimes it's really embarrassing that instead of cheering for our own team, sox fans are so insistent about trashing the yanks. I mean, I dislike them, yes, but I'd rather cheer for the red sox than bash their opponent.

Eh...I don't agree with that. Sure, your owner makes you guys shave and cut your hair, but your team demonstrated your lack of class in the playoffs last year. Don't make me post pictures of Arod slapping the ball out of Arroyo's hand. That was a disgrace to the yankees organization, and baseball.

I love Boston as a city! That is one cool ass town. As far as the baseball teams go, I like both pretty good although I was puling for Boston to win the last World Series. They needed a win and The Yanks had won so many already that they could stand to lose one.

I've never been to Boston, I wanna go visit my friend there though at least once while he's still in school. With my 100% Irish heritage, I probably will fit right in (until I reveal my Yankee tee)

Ha! I am part Irish, too. I am 50% Irish and 50% Greek. Strange mix I know.

I wouldn't recommend doing that while out in the city. Seriously. Drunk college kids will fuck with you and act incredibly immature. One of my best friends went to Northeastern and 2 of his roommates were yankee fans...one of them wore his hat out to a bar one night while I was there, and like 5 or 6 guys came up to him and demanded he take it off. He laughed, and stood up from the table (he's about 6'5, and boxes semi-professionally) and told them to make him. They ran. But seriously, dumb kids like that are everywhere around here.

Also, is "sherbert" pronounced "Sore-bay" or exactly like it looks? "Sherbert"

Suffer and I are debating this. Discuss.

I'm not too sure about that one. Sorry. I have bought sorbet from TCBY, but I don't know about the roots of the word or the pronunciation.

I think Sorbet is a more expensive version of ol Sherbert, with little chunks of fruit in it. Like rasberry sorbet with tasty little chunks. It's more tangy, too. I'm not 100% sure though.

according to Julia Child's website:

Sorbet vs. sherbet. I know there is sometimes a distinction made that the one contains milk and the other does not, or vice versa. As far as I am concerned they are one and the same, except that sorbet is contemporary cuisine chic-speak.

according to another site:

The word sorbet is really just the French translation of the English word sherbet (often misspelled sherbert). Both words (and the Italian sorbetto) are derived from the Turkish sharbat, a sweetened frozen fruit drink. Over the years, however, sorbet and sherbet have come to mean different things in North America.
Today, sherbet contains egg whites, milk, or gelatin (or a combination) to give it a creamy consistency, while sorbet is made without gelatin, eggs, or dairy products (though it may have pectin or vegetable-based thickeners).
The changeover to sorbet started a decade or so ago when savvy marketers started using the French word to refer to new, upgraded, gourmet ices made with more attention to flavor and texture.

I have always called them Gyros
Then one day my friend convinced me it was pronounced Gee-ro
We had a big debate over it, I gave up
So the next time I went into this Greek restauraunt.. I decided to look all cool and cultured.. so I ordered a Gee-ro
The greek dude looked at me funny and said.. you mean a gyro?

People in Boston say things funny. This girl I work with, her brother and her went out to eat at this place in East Boston, her brother (from Arizona) orders a hamburger. The guy behind the counter says "what's on it?" Her brother says "....I don't know, what's on it?"

The guy apparently just shook his head and explained himself.

I find it very interesting how people have different ways of saying things from state to state.

Ya that's a phenomena I have definitely noticed. It's usually little things too.. but people are very adamant about them. Slang and dialect vary from state to state, town to town. I just try to be well rounded.. observant. What are you talking aboot eh?

I had the best voicemail on my cell phone for awhile...it was Phluck saying one word "Aboot"

It was classic, but got erased because it was too old.  Then again I shouldn't llaugh at canadian accents...I was going to a U2 concert not too long ago, and the girl I was going with asked if there were any good bars near the venue we were going to.  I said "The Harp"
She said "what?"  "The HARP"  "Oh, the Hop?  Where's that?"

Apparently I have an issue pronouncing Rs
