Spent cakes... Are they really done for?
    #4339692 - 06/26/05 06:40 PM (11 years, 9 months ago)

i had a few questions about spent cakes, I know that there are usually 3-4 flushes before the nutrients are all used up and basically the cake is spent and will not produce anymore mushrooms, but what if you took a spent cake, and made a casing out of it, but put some BRF and vermiculite on the bottom, with the casing layer on the top, i mean would that provide more nutrients for the mushrooms, and would they produce any more mushrooms? any input is greatly appreciated.

I've been spawning my spent BRF casings to h-poo with 100% succes.. My poo that is fruiting right now, is on it's 2nd flush as poo, and it had 4 flushes as straight BRF before that..

The BRF would probably contaminate. Your odds of success would be much higher if you ground the cakes and used them to spawn bulk (straw or horse crap).
