Cake Question????
    #4339374 - 06/26/05 04:14 PM (11 years, 5 months ago)

OK a FOAF has 5 PF Tek cakes going. The problem is that 90% of the shrooms growing are popping out from under the cakes. Any answers why the whole cake is not sprouting shrooms? He rolled them in the moist ver. they are layed on, but the shrooms are still mainly popping out around the bottom of the cake! Thanks in advance guys!!

Are they sitting on perlite? That usually happens when the cake is sitting on perlite, the pins form in the areas of more moisture.

They are sitting on moist verm. But only 10% have grown on the actual cake surface. The rest are coming out from under the cakes.

Ok, then I'd say they're coming from that spot for the reason I mentioned...cakes tend to form pins in the areas with the most moisture. If you're verm is feeding the cakes tons of moisture down there, they'll form at the bottom and ignore the surrounding humidity basically.

You're welcome   That's why cakes are difficult IMO, high RH% requirements and environmentally picky.  Try casings if you want an easier time getting even pinning.

you can apply a thin layer of sterilized moist verm on top of the cakes. Works for me.
