Z-Strain outdoors (Completed)
    #4337001 - 06/25/05 06:50 PM (18 years, 9 months ago)

I made a pile out of some expended Z-strain horse poo bulk casings, probably about 10 LBS. worth.  Ground up all the casings, mixed, and covered with verm, then placed under a large leafed plant outdoors to offer protection from direct sunlight.  They pinned, and are fruiting in 85-90F+ dry heat, much to my surprise.  I water the verm every day, but it's so hot I doubt it's doing much.  Will update this as they mature, if they don't abort from conditions that is.

Ok, temps reached 100F+ and it became obvious I was losing the grow to the heat.  Had to transfer a large portion to an indoor makeshift mushroom ER room (cardboard sheet + plastic sheet humidity tent) and brought it back to life with several heavy waterings.

Anyone know the origin of Z-strain?  It reminds me of early GT.  Also, wasn't there a rumor that it is GT?  Either way, this is one beautiful strain whatever it is.  :mushroom2:

Ok, the portion of the pile that remained outside somehow still managed to fruit in tough conditions.  Very versatile   I think this flush might be better than the previous one I rescued.

And some final shots:

Funny thing, I was going through an unreleated FAQ a few days ago...let me find it..

Aha...
http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/24245

In that FAQ it says this:
PSC-Z: Psilocybe cubensis, said to be a cross between the strains offered by
P.Fanaticus and Pacific Exotica Spora, grown indoors in the US in 1996.

It appears the addition may have been writtin by TeoNan...whoever it is seems unsure of those origins..but thats what I found.

RK believes it to be GT, but I've tried 2 different Z genetics now and neither have resembled GT in any way, look or growth charecteristic. Both GT and Z have been very unique, not resembling other cubes I've grown.

That's pretty interesting, who knows for sure though. When I got back into this hobby last year, GT was the first strain I worked with. Suprisingly, it resembled nothing of the GT that was floating around 3 years earlier (given same conditions to present accurate comparison).

Something strange about this strain: A really unique smell during harvest. Not cube like or very mushroomy, just this nice cinnamon-earthy smell. Never experienced that before, anyone else? That must sound crazy, because it does to me.

Very nice grow bro!~

Those are some real healthy looking fruits.

---

DreaMatrix...started the talk that the Z strain is the GT.

I grew out the Z strain back in 2002...and mine looked alot like the GT that was floating around at that time...so I agreed with DreaM.
Who f#cking knows...probably only STP(shane).

I don't think STP did anyone any favors when he renamed strains to his own liking.
He is probably laughing at all the controversy over his strain names...all the way to the bank!~

youre not crazy diver, a couple of us were talking about that the other night, it seems to only be the Z strain..... it smells very candy like....  i only smell it on my Z casing, not Treasure coast and not malabar......

srgtm1a, the fruits from this grow dropped heavy spore loads.  They would make for fine prints.

Hey leftysurprise, thanks for confirming that.  It was an awesome smell!  Z-strain is the best cube strain I've worked with to date.  :mushroom2:
