Would you recommend this?

I recently had an h.poo casing that was completely fucked by a casing layer with too strong of hydrated lime. Basically killed all the myc that had colonized to it.

I scraped off my bad casing layer and flipped it over, out of the pan in my fruiting chamber, so it's like one giant cake. I'm getting some nice fruits off of it now.

I would like to make another h.poo casing. I have pasteurized h.poo and a proper casing layer ready. Would it be advisable to cut off some of the colonized first casing that I salvaged and mix it in to the new h.poo to spawn it, and then case?

Better to go with fresh spawn.

Once you have fruits on a substrate & harvest them. there is a high chance - that a tiny bit of fruit body root gets missed. That fruit body residue is prone to contamination, rot, and/or mold.

So, using a used cased substrate as spawn, is more likely to contaminate.

What if I cut away a piece of the substrate that I KNOW hasn't had fruit on it? (Fruiting has been splotchy)

If you can spare the horse manure, I know I have 70-80 pounds lying around, I say go for it. What if you do this and it actually works. You'll know that in the future you can still save your substrate under these conditions.

If you buy your horse manure, like from Tennessee Studs, you may want to think twice. It could be a costly mistake.

Good luck and keep us posted on the results.

Alright.  This dung was collected from a nearby horse farm for free   Can't beat that.  Will update with results.
