Flush?
    #4338314 - 06/26/05 01:42 AM (18 years, 9 months ago)

Im just starting to get into the mushroom scene. Im about to start up trying to grow my own here in the next few weeks. I was reading around and saw posts and it mentioned in the guides about "after 4 flushes." What exactly is a flush?

Edit: And what is this Tyvek stuff?

Thanks.

You might want to do some more reading before you get started. But a flush is the cycles that the mushroom matures. So one flush is the cycle where the cake or casing produces mushrooms from the beginning to the end. Once you harvest your first flush, then it can produce more mushrooms called a second flush. I guess that is how you would explain it.

Tyvek is used as a contam barrier when using cakes. It can found at the post office, or any job construction site that is wrapping thier house in tyvek.

FLUSH-
When the substrate, or cake fruits.  It can have several "flushes"  After harvesting, the flush is considered complete.

Tyvek-
It is a material that is used as a filter to keep out contaminates.  It keeps the moisture in, and contaminates out at the same time it allows gases in the jar to release.  Most get it free at the post office.  There are large envelopes that are made of tyvek.

oh, and welcome to the shroomery, may the search feature be your best friend.  It will teach you more than you ever want to know.

awww, prefloppro beat me to it while I was typing.  But cool, we both said about the same thing.

tyvek is a material manufactured by Dupont. It's most common usages are the envelopes in the Post Office - and the best bart is they're free! it's also used in construction to insulate houses from moisture.

It is used in this hobby as a cover for jars containing WBS (wild bird seed) or other grains, so the jars can breathe and still remain resistant to contams while keeping moisture in and out.

I'd say you have about 20-30 hours of reading/research to do, and about $200-300 to spend to get started. Good luck.

A flush is using the left or right hand to push down on the little silver toilet handle. Usually preformed after droppin' the cosby kids off at the pool. Hope this helps. Jk.

A flush is mycelium--->knots--->primordia---->pins----->mature mushroom.
Its a cycle.

Yes, that's what I was told when I first started with my little BRF cakes, but it wound up being in the 200-300 range.

Though it is VERY easy to spend that much, to get started up and have a few good grows one could get away with $100, hell even $50.

Some of the stealth grows I've seen, the spores are the biggest investment. And you can even get those for $1.

That should be inspirational.

Anyway, back to topic.  Do you have any more questions about the tyvek or flushes  JJ?  Or does that cover it?

When all five cards of a poker hand are the same suit. (joke)

But, in this instance - it is a batch of mushrooms - that fruit.

Second flush - is the next batch, so on & so forth.

A FLUSH
