Expert assistance please

Type grown: P. Cubensis (PF)
Method: Brown rice cakes in 1/2 pint jars

I wanted to post this in the Expert Growers' forum so I could get a solid answer.

This is the second flush (used PF double ended casing technique), and they've grown nicely. The veils have broken, and I've already harvested. Of course, there are primordia (large and small) that haven't really grown, but their heads aren't black, either. So here are my questions:

1) Should I go ahead and scrape those primordia off? Or will they do anything more?

2) If I take them off, will anything else grow, or should I get ready for the third flush? (Actually, it looks like they're pinning again).

99 percent likely that those that remain are all aborts. scrape them all off, and soon you'll have new replacements. the Pf house variety is especially prone to aborts. some people think theyre cool, i don't especially.

aborts generally will have a different appearance than those that will develope into adults. some have whiter caps, or no cap, or the cap is sharper pointed. others are deformed. safe to pick off aborts as soon as they stop growing, as they tend to send chemical messages to the rest of the mycelium that has been shown to retard growth and maturation. sometimes pins that would have otherwise matured, will fail to because of this stunting effect.

in nature, some mushrooms develope extra pins, anticipating that critters will come along and munch them off. in indoor cultivation, hopefuly the only critters that munch them have two feet.
