the paper bag will breath no matter if its open or closed. i'd say 3-7 days if they were instantly put into the fridge fresh. But supposedly they decompose extremely fast, so I am not sure.

How about you just LET THM DRY =) put them infront of a fan or if you have the air vents in the floor lay them over that , drying them would seem to be alot better then letting them rot in your fridge

Im with PSiFr33k, drying is far more practical. But if you insist on freshness, the vegitable crisper is the place to keep them. They wont get mushy as fast.

ggreatone234 says they lose most of their potency when dried. I have seen plenty others that do the same (azurescens come to mind)

Psilocin is lost in drying.
If a shroom has low psilocin content and high psilocybin content (Psilocybe semilanceata comes to mind), then almost no potentcy is lost.
Psilocybe cubensis would lose, on average, 1/2 of fresh potency.
Copelandia cyanescens would lose, on average, 1/4 potency.
Just check the Psilocin levels for whatever you have, thats what your basically losing.
An easy way to tell how much psilocin your shrooms have is to check the amount of bluing. Stronger bluing = more psilocin.

lysergic , you are a little bit misinformed , when properly dried , cubensis rarely lose much potency at all , they are the prime mushies to dry as a matter of fact , aslong as you arent just air drying , ( desicant works well ) then most of the potency is sure as well retained

Most potency is lost after being dried out. Dont they dry out funny though, they shrivel and get all black. After dried they look like almost nothing. I dont think this is the best shroom for storing. I have pondered about brewing them fresh, and storing the brew in the fridge afterwards. Wouldnt you save the psilocybin that would be lost in drying them? I havnt tried it, but it seems like it should work. There has to be some way to store these guys.  :mushroom2:

I've always let my pan subbs dry and they havent lost much potentcy at all. I usually just sit them spread out nicely in the sun and let them dry, save them in a jar and eat when ready. Has worked 25+ times so I think it's fine.

Sorry, youre right. I should have said "potency is lost in oxidizing". Methods of drying that dont involve moving air, or (even better) ones that take oxygen out of the air will effectively keep the psilocin on the inside of the shrooms intact. But that will eventually deteriorate.
