Accidents Can Happen!
    #4336390 - 06/25/05 03:33 PM (18 years, 9 months ago)

This is just a reminder to be extremly carful when it comes to sryinges, i just had an accident and im sure im not the only one, im just the only one to post it.. im sure people are going to make flame me for this but it wasnt a dumb accident im am always very careful with the sryinge.

I was attemting to take the cap off the sringe and it got stuck i applyed more force tryin not to let it slip or anyhing just enough to make it budge and the next thing i know in under 1 second theres 2 holes in my finger sryinge tip full of blood, table full of blood and my hand drenched in blood... trying to rember my highschool years in health class what to do if a puncture... i elevated my hand to attemt to stop bleeding it didnt... i squeezed under it at a pressure point allowing no blood to flow to the finger and it stoped i washed my hands and everything covered in blood and now it is swollen and purple and firm? i dont know if its serious i still have feeling in the tip and i can move it... stoped bleeding

anyways few Q's...
1. blood on tip.. can i still use the sryinge ill have to get the blood off... but will it contam it (im still planniing on flame sterilizing it.. maby a few more times than normal..)

2. could spores have gotten in my finger and would that be bad?

im just paranoid and still shackin from the shock... if u guys want pics ill get them but i didnt bother casue i didnt think anyone would want to see them...

You should be ok even if spores got into your finger. Typically respiratory inhalation of spores is more dangerous than interveinous exposure, because your lungs are a perfect environment for the mycelium of certain mushrooms (such as aspergillus) to grow in. Fortunately for us, the normal human immune system is more than resilient enough to take care of this problem so unless you have aids or another immune dificiency virus your probably fine.

Mycelium may grow throughout your body til it reaches the brain, at which point it will begin controlling your brain, and forcing you to grow mushrooms.

Careful

Check the injured arm daily for signs of healthy mycellium growth.

Ohh man...the spores that are now circulating your blood are going to germinate into hyphae and then start clotting your arteries and then you will go into cardiac arrest.  No just kidding man, P. cube spores will not hurt you but I wouldn't go shooting them up or anything. I would normally suggest you get a tetanus shot but since the spore syringes are supposed to be sterilized anyways, I wouldn't worry too much about that even. IBPROFEN to reduce swelling, no bandaid, no neosporin, let that baby heal on its own. And heck yes you can still use that syringe. just heat steralize and wipe with EtOH. Blood contains carbohydrates/fats/nutrients from lysed cells anywhoo, so you could probably make a LC from your blood but blood loving contams would be an issue (I.e hemolytic bacteria). Just clean and reuse. Goodluck. :tongue2:

Stop experimenting half way through your first grow. Grow it to maturity, watch it, learn from it. Do this a few times then experiment with different ideas and figure out what works best for you.
